: I fixed my low end bog but now.......
young gun '71 May 20th, 04, 7:07 PM it bogs in the high rpm range. if I get into gear it cuts out after 4k. my low end bog turned out to be a combination of over jetting, timing, and secondary spring.I can get over 4500 and it just starts losing rpm almost as fast as they climb. do you think my floats are too low/ high?
blazerbob May 20th, 04, 8:09 PM I'll jump in here as no one else has...Have you adjusted the floats on your Demon according to directions for the carb? Site plugs with fuel just barely to top with little gas leaking out site plug then your adustment is correct. Some Demons have a couple of lines on site plugs depending on use of vehicle-race or street. Goodluck and ask if you need anymore asst. graemlins/waving.gif
young gun '71 May 21st, 04, 12:30 AM ight now they are in the middle of the sight, I'll try and raise them tomorrow before school. thanks.
blazerbob May 21st, 04, 2:18 AM Sorry I wasn't very clear about description of adjusting floats. If you're fuel is in middle of a clear site plug that is high enough. I was actually referring to a solid plug that you must remove in order to adjust till fuel just barely trickles out! How do your plugs look? To rich or to lean? What are cam spec? ;)
young gun '71 May 21st, 04, 7:26 PM my plugs are a light brownish.
cam: 270* adv., 224* @ .050, .470 lift at the lobe, 1.5 ratio rockers, 112* lobe seperation dual pattern. ;)

You don't mention what type of ignition you're running, does it start to break up or does it just quit all at once?
young gun '71 May 21st, 04, 9:33 PM I guess I'm not so sure graemlins/clonk.gif that was a dumb thing to say! thanks for catching me
It's a stock HEI rebuilt with a bunch of accel stuff from a kit. it's a little weird 'cause it goes wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhAAAAAAAAA then AAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. (ever see someone type sound effects? :D ) real smooth
tpshea May 21st, 04, 10:02 PM man, I wish I could be more help. Have you looked at the basics like fuel pressure dying on you at higher RPM, ignition breaking up, plugs gapped wrong for higher RPM? Or, (and I hate to even say this) an engine that just doesn't want to go to the higher RPM for some reason. I have a set of the World S/R heads, mine are the same as yours I think 2.02/1.60 67CC and I have run my engine up to about 5400RPM without too much problem. I had a stock distributor that I upgraded with a Mallory Unilite kit and a better coil, other than that mine weas fairly stock. Holley 600 CFM spreadbore w/vac sec, Edlebrock RPM CAM and intake. Stock open 2.73 rear gears and a TH350 tranny. I keep saying had because it has all been replaced with a ZZ4 now.
young gun '71 May 22nd, 04, 5:23 PM I've spun it to 6000 in 1st once to see what it sounded like. fuel pressure is likely since it's a stock truck pump with a plugged return line graemlins/sad.gif . I'll get a better pump when I can. I think I'll just swap to a stiffer secondary and see what happens.
tpshea May 22nd, 04, 6:12 PM Young Gun,
I am not saying you have done anything wrong, so please don't take what I am about to suggest personally. Before you drive yourself crazy and spend lots of time and money chasing an elusive problem, find a good shop that a) you can trust and b) that has a clue about performance engines. Have them hook your car up to the good old scope and see what's going on. They can test fuel pressure, look at ignition at various engine speeds, etc. They can quite probably save you a lot of time and money. I had replaced the cam in my '78 Z-28 a lot of years ago, and after breaking in the cam, the car just didn't seem right, especially at higher RPM. A visit to a good mechanic and 10 minutes with the scope and he found the 2 DEAD cylinders created by yours truly overtightening rockers and having a couple of valves staying open graemlins/clonk.gif He charged me $25.00 in 1983 bucks, readjusted the lifters for me and schooled me on the up and down vs spinning method of checking hydraulic lifters for zero lash. I had always been taught the spinning method, so who knows how long I might have tried to fix stuff and never even had a clue that I caused the problem. I do computer hardware and software support for a living, and I wish my customers would call me BEFORE they do a lot of experimenting. Good luck, I am sure the solution will probably have you giving yourself the clonk when you find out what it is.
young gun '71 May 22nd, 04, 6:36 PM that makes sense but I don't trust many people around here because they can only fix stock stuff graemlins/angry.gif there may be a shop that I can try, I hope.
novaderrik May 22nd, 04, 10:51 PM sounds like my Nova last year- when i built the 355 4 years ago, i bought a $15 fuel pump, and had it sucking thru the stock 5/16" fuel line on the car. anyways, at the tack last year, i discovered that i couldn't pull past about 4000 in second gear- it was running out of gas. i'd let off for a couple of seconds, and it would go again. got a slightly used Carter mechanical pump from a guy at work- one of the neat aftermarket deals with the housing you can take apart and rotate- and put it on. now, it doesn't run out of gas up to 6500 in that gear, and seems to just flat out run better. maybe someday i'll pony up the $$$ to get 3/8" line from the tank to the pump and maybe even have it run better yet.
Redrum May 22nd, 04, 11:38 PM Do not overlook the simple things. I suspect a fuel delivery issue. If that is the problem do not overlook the "sock" on the end of the fuel pickup inside the tank. First thing is to determine what the real probem is but your description of the sound makes me think fuel delivery......... Laying over on the top end......
young gun '71 May 23rd, 04, 11:25 AM would fuel filter placement have anything to do with it? mine is before the pump.
