Looking for recommendations for head gaskets (composite) for a BBC (454 block +.040) with aluminum heads. Engine will be around 625 HP. May spray 150-200 HP on few occassions.

Don't want any o-ring anything, nothing copper. Just something very reliable and simple. Engine will have ARP head bolts.

Thanks for any comments.

I have used Cometics on my last 4 engine builds and they work very well.

Corteco has a nice looking new gasket for non o-ring setups that they say is just as good if not better than the Cometics. The only problem is that they are not available custom thickness like the Cometics. They had some at their booth at PRI and looked really good. Also had a new copper gasket with their sealant to prevent leaks but it is designed for use with O-rings.

Well I haven't ran the engine yet but I installed the Cometic's on my 498 just because of the NOS. I didn't want to O-ring either and from the few engine builders I talked with the Cometic seemed to be the gasket of choice for that situation.

I've used the MLS Cometics on mine in the past up to 300 hp range shots and they looked pretty good when I took them off this winter.

You can get them direct from Cometic
(800)752-9850 & it is by far the best gasket for a bi metal or all aluminum deal going.
You can also order them from .027" to .120" thick.
It will seal damn near as good as an "O" ring copper deal without all the hassle in most reasonable applications graemlins/thumbsup.gif
It is what Brodix recommends for their aluminum block / head engines because they grow so much.

If you have any problem, hollar & I will get them for you ;)

Great Mike,
Thanks. After I do a mock assy and get the chambers cleaned up to figure out true compression, I'll probably give ya a call.
