What were you doing when you heard Elvis died?

I was just getting home with my Dad in his 76 Dodge truck and heard it on the AM radio while pulling into the driveway where we used to live in Elkton, Ohio. He truly was the "King" in my eyes as you've probably already read in some of my posts. I was just listening to him about 30 minutes ago.

I was working my job as a dishwasher at a hospital when one of the cooks came through with the announcement. I didn't believe her at first, then we turned on a radio and shut off the kitchen equipment so that we could listen to the news.

I was 10 and getting ready to head home after a long day at "Worlds of Fun" in Kansas City MO. I was with my parents, my little sister, my aunt, uncle and cousins who were visiting from Oklahoma. My aunt took the news hard and according to my cousins practically cried all the way back to Oklahoma that night. As a kid I thought he was right there with Bruce Lee, Billy Jack and Evel K. I liked the way he rolled buying Cadillacs for people, getting all the girls, fighting and shooting inanimate objects that pissed him off, lol. Now days, he gets his share of rotation in my I-pod, in his time he was a great showman and had a great voice.

Painting a split rail fence in Canton, CT for something like $2.00/hr. My boss didn't seem to care too much. Got paid about once a month on that job, had to plead for it too. Never work for a friend of the family.

9 Years old, I remember my mom telling me and then they played all of his old crappy movies for a week straight. I like his music, Not his movies.

30 years ago I was removing a blown-up engine in my 64 GTO. I remember it was about 100 degrees and I was covered from head to toes with grease. Didnt care too much about Elvis, just wanted to get my 421-Tripower in the Goat.

It was my junior year at the University of Alabama. I was sitting in World Civ class studying ancient Chinese dynastic civilization. My best friend, a real Elvis fan, was also in that class. I remember he took the news particularly hard. I still enjoy his music, and get a kick out of his movies.

I was working at a horshoe factory and was sitting in my 69 Chevelle listening to BTO on the 8 track while on lunch break when one of the guys I was working with came back from lunch at home and said turn on the radio. I asked why and he said Elvis died and then he burst into tears! I just turned the 8 track up louder! I really like his music but I wasn't in love with the guy! Zeeeesh!

I was sitting on the floor of a friends house in Columbus, WI when it came over the news. I remember his parents and mine all going silent as the report was read

I was just a kid myself. Really didn't know what rock'n roll was or a great deal of history behind it.

But I can remember clearly, and I don't know why. It was a hot/humid day around 3 or 4:00 o'clock. I was at my grandmothers playing outside by myself and came in because I was bored. That's when I heard it on the TV. Oh...I think I was eatting a P/B and J too!
