I can't give you much in the way of experience using one, I just bought one and installed it this evening. From what I know, the Mallory Hyfire VI is roughly equivalent to the MSD 6. The VI-A being similar to the MSD 6A, and the AL's both being adjustable limiters. The reasons I went with the Mallory were 1) I have a Mallory distributor, 2) the Mallory box doesn't require chips for rev limiter, has a little wheel you can turn inside, and 3) Jegs has the Mallory VI-AL (the one with rev limiter) on sale right now for $149.9X, call it $150. Signifigant savings over the MSD box at that price.

im running the mallory hyfire 6a box with an msd distributor and blaster2 coil. all is new and runs great. i have a friend with the mallory 6al box, same setup as me, and he thinks its good too. never checked into the msd 6a though.

As far as I know, the major difference between the two is that the Mallory box is digital, while the MSD box still has older style electronics. I have the Mallory 6AL mounted on my firewall, but I don't have the engine running yet so I can't comment on its performance.

I bet MSD wasn't to happy with Mallory about using the exact same suffix on the name of their product.

I run an MSD 6AL and have never run into any problems with it. Even though it isn't digital, it still works flawlessly, and the chip-type RPM modules are easy to swap out. It's a plug-n-play setup if used with an MSD billet distributor, which is my next purchase.

I have all Mallory ignition with the 6AL, I did have a problem when I first added the 6AL but changed the wiring to put the ballast resistor before the 6AL box and the distributor per thier revised instructions.
I really like the rev limiter, it's saved my engine on at least one occasion for sure !!!
