Just curious as to why bleach is commonly mentioned as a burnout inducer. Is it only because it's so slippery? I imagine using it would be a little easier on parts when messing around...
Just kinda curious as to how this got started and also if anyone has any other supplements...besides TORQUE :D Feel sorry for those who don't have enough of it
I'm looking to get some really good pics on this old bridge with a nice hill backdrop this weekend and I want to be as gentle on the tranny and ect as possible.

Bleach + spinning tires + burning rubber + friction = ALOT OF SMOKE!!
During High School on the last day of school, the seniors would try to produce the biggest smoke cloud possible using bleach.

Bleach actually makes rubber more "sticky" and gives much better traction. As a side benefit, it also helps to produce more smoke.
The use of bleach on rubber is not just a drag racing trick. Many (very many) years ago I worked at a sawmill and on very cold mornings the lumber would slip on the rubber conveyor belt that carried the cut lumber to the planning mill. This would cause all the lumber to jam up on the conveyor and production would come to a stop. The guys who worked in that area always had a bottle of bleach handy and would pour some on the belt. The lumber would take off immediately after the bleach was applied.

Interesting...I would never guess it would make more traction. Thanks guys!

So, would the bleach help enough to be of some benefit if sprayed on your tires just be for a 1/4 mile pass?

All tracks use WATER only. Back in the day we used to pull up pieces of track with some of the mixes we came up with. And the cool FIRE burnout was really neat at night.

Well camera guy was getting ready when some guy started coming to harrass us so we left, saw the sheriff on the way out...apparently the guy called him.
Shame, would have been a badass pic in front of an old suspension bridge with a big hill in the background

In my high school days, I had a friend who ran tubing from his windshield washer pump to both rear fender wells of his '68 Firebird. He simply replaced the windshield solvent with bleach and could produce a nice "mushroom cloud" at the mere press of a button...and his gas pedal of course.
I really miss those days....

I did this when I was in high school in my parents driveway - it works!
