: Help with 60 ft times
asbill71 Sep 19th, 04, 3:57 PM I have a 67 Elky. 355 with flat tops. 2.02/1.94 DH heads. Lunati 292/480 Hyd Cam .Headers,Performer RPM with 3310 Holley.HEi with Supercoil. About 10:1 comp. I run supper unlead with booster.
TB350 with better sprag and shift kit.Currently running a 12 inch converter rated at 2000-2200 stall.
8.25 Posi with 4:56 gears. Running 28.5 tall MT ET Streets.
Cars weighs 3750 with me in it. I usually leave at 1500 RPMs, if I try higher it seems to load up.
My best time slip from last night was as follows:
1/8th mile track
Reaction: 0.544
60ft: 2.0461
330ft: 5.8070
1/8th ET: 8.9458
1/8th MPH: 77.55
Was also hitting alot of 2.10 60ft times last night because of track conditions.
My question is will going to more converter help my 60ft times alot? I compared my time slips with another racer with almost identical combo exept he had more stall. He was running same ET in a 60's step side truck but with 1.90 60ft times. I would like to do something to get some quicker 60fts any advice?
bigjimzlll Sep 19th, 04, 4:03 PM That cam starts makinpower around 3500rpm..or so..I think a stall of 3000 will help a lot
ddeennis Sep 19th, 04, 4:37 PM i second the stall at least a 3000......and lay off the super unleaded and booster junk.....with that cam and something of 10 to 1 your wasting money buying fuel you dont need.....
remember the lower the octane rating the faster the fuel burns inside the motor hence the more power potential there is.......there is no reason to run high octane fuel in combos that dont need it ...its just slows the car down.
try it some time you might find more power and better e.t.s
and dont forget there is better 60 ft times in getting the carb and timing tuned in....
hoffbug Sep 19th, 04, 4:47 PM Are you experiencing any tire slippage now? Remember that once you optimize that converter, your suspension has to be up to the task.
What color secondary spring are you running?
Pat Kelley Sep 19th, 04, 5:18 PM Converter, for sure., 3000 min. My 67 Elky isn't much different than yours. I run in 7.30-.40's. My 60's and overall ET picked up a bunch going from a 2000 to a 3000 stall. I now have a converter that flashes to 3700 and need more. Going to the 3000 converter brought out very bad wheel hop. SSM Lift bars solved that problem. No hops will put dents in the bed. As said, no need for gas booster. 91 is sufficent. My Elky is quite a bit lighter at 3400 with me so you probably can run low 8's without too much effort. A DP will help but not really necessary. Just jet your carb for best mph. My specs are linked in my sig.
I looked at my old TS's and the 3000 stall with the SSM bars lowered my 1/8 ET from 8.7 to 8.3. With just the converter, 60' improved .2 of a second but I had horrible wheel hop or it might have been better. This was on BFG DR's (I was never very sucessful with DR's), you have better tires.
asbill71 Sep 19th, 04, 8:39 PM I am not having much tire slippage when the track is good.I found a weird offset on some 10 inch centerlines and currently run 11.50 inch wide MT ET Streets with no rubbing issues.
I don't know for sure what color spring I am running in the 3310, I think a 700-750 DP would help.
I do drive this car around town, so I want some streetability.
P.S If you follow this link and scroll halfway down the page you will see a pic of my white 67 Elky. I am also the big guy in the picture waiting in line for a burger.

Pat Kelley Sep 19th, 04, 10:12 PM Nice El Camino. Want to give away your bumper? :D
asbill71 Sep 19th, 04, 10:21 PM Thats the best thing on the car. The back bumper is rough. I considered buying some glass ones from Unlimited Products. They were listed for around $100 each. I may know where one sits here in town , I will do some checking, maybe able to pick it up for next to nothing.
Nickel333 Sep 19th, 04, 10:41 PM about the gas, you could probably run 89 octane if you wanted without any mods to timing, try it sometime.
asbill71 Sep 19th, 04, 10:54 PM I will try it this weekend, we have a big "Ironman" race with a $5000 payout for Electronic, and $2000 for No/E.
Anyone close to the Abilene, Texas are ought to come on over and race, track is like right off t interestate 20, I mean right off, like between 50-75 yards off the Interstate. Pretty cool when passing 18 wheelers on the interstate lay on the airhorns while your concentrating on cutting a good light.
m71 Sep 19th, 04, 11:59 PM i agree a good 10" 3000-3500 stall would help a good 2 or 3 tenths. i used to have almost the same set up as you except i had a 3000 stall and 4.10 gears with 26" tall tires and it did 1.80 60fts with a 3310 and ran 8.60's @80mph, with a 750dp it ran 8.50's with a 1.76 60ft time. i had drag shocks, trick springs, and SSM bars too. tires were M/T sprtsman pro 26x10.5's.
