Here's a summary of my left turn lights problem:

- Finally got the 67 SS restoration completed after 9 years
- Both left/right turn signals worked fine
- Both headlights and tail lights worked fine

Recently, a series of bad thunder storms came through my area but the Chevelle was covered with a new car cover (don't have a garage yet)

- Now, the moment that I connect the battery terminal before cranking the
car, the left front and rear signal lights come on and stay on
- I can turn on the left signal indicator....can hear the "blinker" noise.... but
the left front or left rear turn signals do not blink
- I can crank the engine, the right front and rear turn signals work fine, but
the left front and rear signals still do the same as I mentioned above

It's strange that this problem came up immediately after the thunderstorms. If something got wet, it surely has had time to dry out. This happened about 3 weeks ago. Oh yes, I have new flashers (2) and new bulbs.

Anybody have any ideas? I'm absolutely at a loss!!!

Thanks, Charles

I just restored and painted my 67 and had some problems with lights and turn signals. In my case it stemed from bad grounds and connections for instance too much paint around the socket hole for the back tail lights for it to ground, sometimes I had lights sometimes not, sandpaper around the socket fixed that. My head lights needed a better ground also, one was left slightly loose. My left front turn signal also needed a better ground from too much paint, once my ground issues were fixed I have good lights everywere hope that will help good luck.

Let me get this straight.
Key off, lights off, indicators off, connect battery and both left side indicators light up ?
Sounds like water is still present or has coroded something causing a short between the lightswitch and indicator switch maybe ?

This is truly a bizzare and uniquie problem ... I'm going to think about it some more.

Check your grounds for each light.

First make sure you have a good battery to engine ground cable, clean metal on the block and a good clean ground to the fender from the negative pigtail and a block to firewall ground strap wouldn't hurt.
The indicators lighting up without anything else on is still a mystery ?
Does it have a hazzard switch on the column ?

Yep. Everything worked like it should until after the thunderstorms.

The emergency flasher is in the off position.

I'll recheck the engine block to firewall ground strap connections and try to sand around the light socket connection for a good ground.

This is probably one of those testy situations you have to face in getting a new resto on the road. I'll have to resort to hand signals for a while!!!

Thanks for the help, Charles

Mystery Solved!!! 509Merlin was right on about sandpapering the tail light lamp sockets. Everything works like it should now.

I now understand why good grounding is critical to electrical operations. It can save a lot of headaches and endless wondering about why things don't work.

Thanks again, 509Merlin!!

There must be more to the story ? But I'm glad you fixed it :D
