Hello Folks,

I am starting a 781 head buildup and am wondering what size of valve stem everyone is using. I have heard the 11/32 size valves are lighter therefore easier to move at the higher rpms's. These heads will be put on a 468 that probably won't see 6000 rpm right now. Eventually I want to run a high compress solid cam engine that might see 60000 rpm.

If you're replacing the guides anyway, I'd go with 11/32 necked down stem. Lighter valve and flows more air. My aluminum heads have the 11/32'' and the 990's have 3/8. Hello to the Nation's capital. graemlins/beers.gif

They typically cost about the same and if you need to put in new guides why not get the lighter valves that flow more? I'm putting 11/32 stemmed valves in my 049 heads.

My head builder recommended them and when I saw the prices weren't an issue it was an easy decision. Competition Products has a nice in-house stainless steel valve that is as good or better than the name brand valves for a lot less $$$$ than the name brand stuff.

Thanks guys,

I am planning to take apart and hot tank and bead blast the heads. I did a rough measurement and they could be the larger valves.
I will take a look at the competition products.

Hello Trenton. I everything in Trenton is going well. I wonder if you guys got hit with the snow storm.
