Hey Everyone,

I'm considering getting the Mr. Gasket Street Scoop 2 for my 454BB black 70'Malibu.

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=MRG-6658&N=120 303493 (Jegs is expensive).

I think it would look rather sweet, but my dad thinks it looks rather tacky! Was interested in what others thought. Do you have it / seen it?

Thanks for the help!

We had a guy on the dyno with one a while back - he gained about 20 rwhp when we took the scoop off his 460 Ford and put on a regular 14x3 air cleaner. That's about $10 per hp lost...

I've seen guys put a homeowner-style plastic roof vent on the hood of their car.

I guess if you wanted to do it "right" you could go for one of the metal spin-y turbine vents...

I have one. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm losing a bit of HP from it, less flow and you have to use small air filters. I like the look of it though, and at this point I have too much HP for the street anyhow. If I were to make a trip to the track, I'd probably take it off.

If you get down my way (Santa Cruz) look me up.

I vote for tacky. An Enderle bug cather only belongs on top of a blower injecting in Alcohol or Nitromethane. It's just my opinion - get one if you like it.

I have seen the Mr. Gasket scoop look good on a dual quad tunnel ram setup though.

if it's a hood clearance issue because of a blower, tunnel ram etc etc, i think a big 4" cowl on a '70 looks much much cleaner and meaner than a scoop coming through. some cars can pull it off, some kinda, and others can't. i cruise with a guy who has a bright yellow '63 nova with a roots 383, with a hilborn scoop, and no hood.... looks a-mazing. but just cause it looks good on his car, doesn't always mean it'll look good on another.

all that aside, it comes down to what you want. if you really dig a thru-the-hood flycatcher, go for it.

Hey All,

Thanks for your opinions! I think for now I'm gonna pass on it! Some good points there, specially about the hp loss.

The car is a work in progress for sure, just installed a new hood a few mins ago (was gonna cut the old one for the scoop).

Next week, comes the new disc breaks for the front!

As soon as the car is more presentable, can't wait to come check out my local chevelle club!

kinzli: Sounds good!

Thanks all for the advice, much appreciated
heh, future question: rims, tires,

i have one of those scoops- it was a living room ornament that sat on top of my tv for years- until i got an older 14 HP Murray riding lawnmower last year.. now it's on the hood of that looking all menacing and what not. i sure get the looks from cars going by when i'm mowing..
