I have a 1971 SS, console shift with aftermarket gauges mounted under the dash but above the console that were installed before I bought the car. The wiring for these looked a bit ratty so last week I wire-tied and tidied up the birds nest. Soooooo, the other night I'm coming home, and no dash lights, all other lights (headlights, tail lights, side markers, license plate) work. I replaced the 4 amp fuse in the panel and dash lights come back, but no lights for aftermarket gauges, wiggle the wires again, and blow another fuse. Did this twice. Now third times lucky, I leave the wires alone and have dash lights but no lights in the working gauges.

Is there a wire thats grounding there, if so what color?, need help.

Yes, it sounds like one of the wires is shorting out.

What ever color the after market gauges use for the lights, you should be able to see them.

Not sure that all companies use the same color wires.
