i was curious if anyone knew if in a 70 malibu with a/c car, you could use a non a/c dash harness? does the a/c harness plug into it? i purchased a dash harness from ebay, but the auction ended before the guy emailed me back and told me it was from a non a/c car, i called american autowire and on their reproductions the a/c harness is separate and plugs into the dash harness so they only offer one dash harness which gives me hope i can use this harness...... thanks!

A 70 factory A/C harness is a stand alone harness, It goes into the dash behind the Dist. Use only a 70 A/C harness. 71-72 A/C harness is different. I built a 70 SS wagon and tried to use a 71 A/C harness.
The A/C harness has nothing to do with an SS harness or a Sweep dash harness. Find an old 70 vell-monte-wagon get the A/C harness and you are good to go. Also get all the goodies when you get the harness.
P.S. My 70 SS 454 Sta. Wgn. started life as a 71 wgn. with fac. A/C. That is how I know the 71 A/C wiring is different than a 70.

thanks for the info! that's what i was hoping, i already have the a/c harness in the car, the previous owner decided to try and add a newer radio and hacked up the dash harness, so i don't have dash lights and such, and it looks crappy

71-72 A/C harness is different. I built a 70 SS wagon and tried to use a 71 A/C harness.

In 71 and 72 they added a seat belt light on the dash and a seat sensor/switch. Lots of connections moved.

If you do use a 71 harness on a 70 NEVER turn on the wipers. Major smoke. LOL

AAW only shows a difference in what guage package you have so if that hooks up correctly you should be good to go.

If it is truly a non AC under dash harness it will not work. The underhood A/C harness plugs into the under dash harness. I have seen three versions of harnesses with respect to AC & Heater: Heater only connectors, A/C Only connector (large brown power to the AC harness) and both Heater connections and AC connector.
Not sure what the problem would be for a 71 underdash harness with respect to the wiper. The wiring and plug is identical. A 72 harness does have a different connector, wiper switch and wiring. Also I don't think 71 ever had the seat belt light, and early 72's didn't have the seat belt light.
