Watching HP TV this weekend on Spike, the guys swapped a Air Gap Intake and Edelbrock carb on an El Camino and claimed 100 HP increase. I did not see the end of the show. My question is, what's the deal? I have a 67 SS 396/325 .. bored 30 over, but rebuilt basically stock w/Q-jet ... Is there a carb/manifold combo that will give me a significant increase in HP? I was planning a cam upgrade, but I am curious about this because I will not have to bother with valve springs or such... Can anyone shed any light ? Thanks Oh yeah ... Will my hood clear a Air-Gap manifold ... ? Suggestions are welcome ... thanks again ... sdt

The short answer to both your questions is NO. 1. You WON"T get 100HP from a Carb/Manifold (unless yours is SO out of tune that you are LOOSING 75HP). 2. It won't clear the hood. They stated that on the show and installed a Goodmark 2" cowl hood.
