What is the correct (stock) size of this exhaust. I believe it is 2". I want to replace my stock mufflers and tail pipes, most likely go with flowmaster mufflers (i know this could be a whole new post altogether!)... but having a hard time locating flows in the 2" size. Any recommendations? Cost is definitely a factor right now...

My 64 SS originally had 283/PG and single exhaust that I believe was one and three quarter inches. When I replaced it, the muffler shop said even if I moved up to a crate 350/383, the biggest I should go would be two and one-quarter inches. This guy's been doing exhaust for 25 years according to my cousin who grew up 2 miles from his shop and has used him for at least 5 cars and referrred everyone he knows to this guy. I would figure he knows what he talking about after 25 years. 64elkynss

2.25 inch pipe would be choking even a mildly built 350 or 383. Heck, even my 327 had 2.5 inch head pipes from the factory. And I'd take the advice of a room full of old-time GM engine engineers over a muffler shop owner any day.
