You guys are not going to believe this. The brand new GenVI block [delivered in a factory crate, direct from a local Chevy dealer] is cracked at the bellhousing flange. It also has been honed well-oversized. Seems some bozo must have taken delivery of the block, screwed up the honing and cracked the housing flange trying to install/remove the trans dowel pins, then repackaged the block in original packaging and sent it back to the GM warehouse. The honing issue is minor, nothing a .020 overbore won't cure, but I can not believe I wound up with another cracked block.
So what are the odds? I have 2 things on my immediate to-do list. 1. Buy a lottery ticket 2. Search the house for the voodoo doll my wife must have tucked away.

Sorry man! Hopefully the dealer will be getting you another block.

Its not really that big of deal, just a time delay, but trust me this is a no-BS post. When Charlie (machinist) called me about it, I really thought he was just doin a little batt-bustin. Hey, things happen.
Good thing here - dealer took it back, no questions, gave me a full credit and ordered a replacment. That is the benefit of buying new parts from GM.
Sometimes things work for the better in strange ways. I've since pulled together a sizeable amunt of cash and may spring for some decent alum heads, so this will change my build anyway - at least as far as pistons.

The old firebrick company put a 361 Ford short block in one of our trucks way back when and I thought it was strange when I crawled under it and read the remanufacturers decal spec's.. mains at .020, rods at .020 and bore stock!!
We drove it about 400 miles back where we lived and it started dripping a little bit of antifreeze out of its bellhousing..
Seems the block was cracked/flawed from the git-go and just used for a core regardless!!
Yes, you sure do have to check things..

I was wondering how long before someone figured out the reference. That's one of my favorite expressions whenever I run into something that requires a little extra thought - in this case a no brainer - I already sent it back and got a credit.

Just put a replacement engine in the father-inlaws plow truck got it home and looked underneath it to see a little bit of oil on the bottom of the pan. hmmmm..... it looked good when i cleaned it but apparently the pan has a pourous(sp?) spot on it and the oil slowly leaks right through the metal....DOH!!!
