I posted this in the performance section under LCA ladder bar lowers; but got not reply...So I moved it here
I know that there have been some past threads concerning LCA's that replaced the upper control arms and functioned as a short ladder bar.:D I thought that I would post this photo to see what everyone's thoughts were. You might notice that this is on an A-body; but it is not a Chevelle.
Sorry for the poor quality this photo was from 1970.
So what do you think?

That so looks like it would fly apart with any sort of power to it.
Just doesnt look like there is enough attachment meat there.

I see the upper arms were removed to make it work, but lateral stability would not be good at all. With a diagonal link or some sort of triangulation of the arms back to the housing to provide lateral location would make that setup work every bit as good as the famous top secret suspension discussed a few weeks ago. ;)

I agree that it is crude; but it was done in 1970. The car was a 69 GTO named El Gato. It ran in an AHRA class that required a two barrel carb with stock class restrictions and the Ram Air spec 400. Take into perspective that the father of one of my friends ran under the same type of rules with his 68 427 Dickey Harrell Nova and ran 12.10 et range. He hated the two barrel class so much that he made a giant two barrel from a Holley 3 barrel, by making the primaries a big oval like the secondary. He new it would not work right; but did it just to take a jab at the tech guys. Never go to try that one, as they made an instant rule adjustment!
Back on track….Imagine this system dressed up a little with some nice 4130 Chrome Moly Tubing and an upper locating device that looks like a hybrid wishbone locator. Make it all bolt in place instead of weld and add room for adjustment…..

Mr l88 put me onto this thread after asking me about my solid rear setup in my vette that I just completed.
Looks interesting - and somewhat what our setup looks like that we run in our chevelle - see signiture picture; however our setup is a little more complex and much more "technical/refined" than that setup - and yes it completely bolts in. It is much along the line of the "weibe" based system.
The above mentioned setup lacks some funamentals that make our system work and do not replace the weak link the above shown setup still uses.
I am not knocking the above setup, but as stated it was for a much slower/less HP car. That being said it may have worked/performed fine.
Interesting look at what history has shown.

By the way this car was a 69 Judge based out of Arizona and ran by a guy with the last name of Braswell. His sons name is David.
There is no doubt that the system could be better; but considering what was being used in 1970 for suspension, I thought that it was interesting. When you think that a ProStock car in 1970 was a mid 9 second ride with Slapper Bars, Airbags, or Spring clamps This set-up was a little on the edge.
Putting a blind eye to the material shape, method of mounting, adjustability, and means for location I thought that it might be similar to a system that has drawn a lot of attenion on this board.
