I am looking to buy a posi unit for my 1972 chevelle and was wondering if I can use the same 8.2 inch ring gear and carriers from cars of the same years like monte carlos and 442's and other muscle cars of the year. Any help wpuld be appreciated.

The 8.2 Buick, Olds , Pontiac, are different they don't use C Clips. A 8.2 out of a Nova ,Camaro, the posi carrier would be the same.

Most of the Chevy cars had the 8.2 10 bolt up to '71. I have seen the BOP 8.2 in a few Chevelles. Most of the Olds Pontiac and Buick cars will have the BOP 8.2 instead of the Chevy 8.2. Any 8.2 Chevy posi will work in the 8.2 that you have, as long as it is the right series for the gear ratio that you have.
