This needs to stay near the top. :D

Or maybe moved to Performance, where the guys that race more often tend to hang out.

Congratulations, on the Pump Gas Drags, that was very cool.

Is this going to be a spectator-driven event? If so, I hope both participants and spectators will be adequately notified in case of changes due to inclement weather.

Very cool but how about us left coast guys who started most of this Hot Rod stuff to begin with?

I agree.......for some reason all the cool stuff the mags do are on the east coast. Its the same way with the 4x4's stuff. I cant figure it out..

Is this somewhat contradictory? Can I run a 67
Camaro with a mini-tub and a coil-over conversion or do I have to retain the stock suspension?

I believe the coil over shocks are for the front suspension of the leaf spring equiped cars and cars with coil springs can run the coil overs on the front and back. Basically no ladder bars or drag racing four links.

Yeah, Hot Rod re-did that Chevelle and took it on the Power Tour.

Might as well un-sticky this if no one can get any info on the event, :( .

I forwarded this to the guys at ProMedia so they can address the tech questions. I'd answer, but I want to keep it "official," and they are the ones running the race.

Thanks for the comments about me and CC. Those were fun days.

Yes, the CC days were great for readers as well. After having cancelled in frustration in the early-90s, I subbed to CC again later after a girlfriend picked me up a copy and I noticed how much things had changed for the better.

Hi everyone. Freiburger forwarded me the info for this thread, so I'm here to hopefully answer everyone's questions. So, here we go.

TH: The Outlaw Drag Radial Shootout is being run in conjunction with the regular PRO Edelbrock World Finals in Memphis. These events are "spectator-driven" in that we do a ton of promotion for the event, so there will be a healthy crowd to race in front of. Any weather conditions will be handled as they are with any ProMedia events. Since this is the finals, if it rains on Sunday there's a very good chance we'll stay until Monday or Tuesday to run the race, and that will include the Drag Radial class.

Mark 502: Actually, there should be a healthy turnout of West Coast racers for this event. If you notice, it's the week before the Orlando race, which has a strong turnout of California racers. Their Drag Radial class last year was actually won by a California team.

onovakind67: This rule is the same as Orlando's, and it's the same as the NMRA Drag Radial class rules. Basically, you can't back-half the car; it still must retain the full length of the framerails, but they can be notched for tire clearance. To better explain, the inside edge of the rail must remain, and untouched, but you can narrow the individual rail but removing most of the outer portion and boxing it back in. Camaros are the same way. The coil-overs are mostly for the Mustang guys that already have them. As for leaf-spring cars, if you have coil-overs there's no way to locate the rearend without ladder bars or 4-links, so that obviously is not legal. I'll have to double-check that, however.

Any other questions, please feel free to email me at rkinnan@promediapub.com, and I'll do my best to answer everyone in a timely fashion.
