Here is a couple of pictures of my 70 Chevelle SS (clone) engine bay. I'm taking delivery of the car in about 7-9 days, whenever the car carrier gets here.

I am currently reading about engines, as I know NOTHING. From your expert opinions, just from looking at the pictures, what should I be ordering and what should I do to the engine when it arrives? I appreciate all your advice and help. Thanks.

Change out that ratty old air filter and leave it alone. Unless you want to go faster:D

It looks pretty clean to me. Change the air filter, check to see that it is in good tune, clean it up if there are any oily or greasy areas and call it good. Drive it as it is before you decide to modify it anymore, you might find you like it just the way it is.

Like I said, I'm new to the hobby, can anyone recommend an air filter? I don't know what the specifications are for one. I want to get the best one possible. I know they have 2"-4", which one should I get? Thanks.

Can't go wrong with a K&N airfilter. It may be more expensive, but worth it.

Ric

measure how tall that ratty one is & get a 14x?? K& N

The air cleaner decal would be nice & I'd ditch the chrome radiator cover....always hated those. Looks kinda cheesy on an otherwise stock eng. compartment.

maybe some good wire looms for the spark plug wires too.

I would get a new airfilter (its a 14x3) the 454 turbo jet 360 HP decals and a regular breather for the passenger side valve cover.

I would get the brake booster re-plated the gold iridite.

Phil...can't tell for sure, but your + battery term cable looks questionable ( corroded?) . A bad batt connection will leave you stranded. If you can get to your starter, put a nice beefy + cable on there... just a thought

A dual snorkel air cleaner with chrome lid would look great, then add the factory stickers.

Air filter as mentioned soap and water blow dry (don't drown the ignition) and get a can of pledge and a towel and use that as a detailer for every thing you can reach and polish great for hoses and fender skirts also. Some pics in showroom.

I would also get some looms for those ignition wires. It will look a lot nicer and hopefully keep them from arcing.

I guess I can only recommend what I have done to mine. My dad helped with the $$$ to build it as a college graduation present so some of the stuff is a little expensive but if you can swing it it looks really nice. I will post some pictures in the next few days. Here are some of the parts.

Valve covers

Air cleaner

Intake: i have a victor jr, but i would recommend a performer RPM for you. I think a new intake really cleans things up.

This was the expensive part: pulleys
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_245408_-1

These are some things I would like, but they get a little crazy on the price.

MSD alternator

March power steering pump
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_119506_-1

Water pump; with the above pulley kit, you need a long pump, but I think you can buy an adaptor for these to make them long. I would like the polished one.

Billet air cleaner:

And, all the braded stainless steel line and AN fittings you can get.

Good luck

I would replace the rubber fuel line with metal before it causes you grief. I have seen a car burn from a small leak that squirted on the manifold.
