Hi this is my first question on this site and I heard if I wanted the answer this is the right place.

I know this is chevelles.com and I would love to post a question on anything chevy but the fact of the matter is that right now I'm stuck with a dodge like it or not so I will take any guff required on my mopar but I would like an answer please.
I am currently building a '77 chrysler LA 360 v8 and haven't been able to find any roller cam setups for this particular engine. I know that the later magnum engines were a factory roller cam setup so that is the most common weapon of choice when building a small block mopar. I was wondering if they are just incredibly unpopular of if there was some design flaw that makes this impossible to do within the weekend mechanic's means. I dont have I very big setup, just an edelbrock performer intake, 318 heads for higher compression full length headers, a 600cfm carb and and the flat tappet cam I was building it for has 205 duration at 050 lift and 420 total lift since its just in a truck, anyway is there any hydraulic roller cams for my engine or am I stuck with flat tappets until I can get a nova

You won't get any "guff" here :D
The 340/360 Chry engines have been known to run pretty fair, I had a 70 Cuda many years ago that bone stock with a 340 ran hi 13's

Anyway, on hyd rollers I can't answer directly except to say I recently bushed a 340 block for another shop that was running a hyd roller & all the 273-360 cams are somewhat interchangable except the "R" block which has a different lifter bore angle.
The late hyd roller stuff has a different snout so you need the "retrofit cam" is my understanding.
You need to check on this as I am going from memory & I do not do much Chry stuff.

The problem was the stock block had a pretty big chamfer in the top of the lifter bores so the oil band was coming up out of the bore & it was losing oil pressure
Had to have custom bushings made with a shoulder that were taller than the block & it fixed it.
I do not know what hyd roller they were running but it was a hyd roller ;)
This was apparently a pretty rare block from an original AAR Cuda according to what I was told.
Here is a picture of what I did, you can see the shoulder & the cut that was necessary to the deck to install the bushings.
I have no idea how common this issue is or at how much lift it becomes an issue

The only hydraulic roller cam that I have found for that engine is the comp thumper, but based on the other threads that I have looked through I don't think that would be a good idea besides I want some torque down low and not at 2000 rpm. If anyone knows of a worthwhile cam that is roller I would like to know.

If not mistaken, the T/A and AAR blocks used better heads that had to have the "V" valley scalloped so the p/r's would clear.

Notice how much p/r scallop relief's there are in Mike's pic. of the block he bushed.

My little Brother had a '70 340 T/A 6-Pack and he told me the heads and block were different from the regular 340's is all.

I might be all wet here??????????

I relieved the block so the bushing would clear ;)
They were not scalloped that much stock
All the blocks had a relief as the lifter bore angle is 59°
