: Went back to the track-guess how I did
I went back to the track today. combo is the same except I now have a 10'BTE converter, flash 3800, footbrake 2500-2600. Weld wheels 8's in back, 4.5-5in, in front. See if you can guess the best time I ran was. Last trips times are listed below. they were ran with a sorry 1900-2200 summit stall, basically it is a stock converter.GOOD LUCK with the guessing.I'll post tommorrow.

Darracq Nov 23rd, 03, 10:43 AM There is somthing suriously screwed up with the timing system there. No way can you run a 12.19 at only 107 with a 2.0 60 ft How can you run 114 one pass and only 107 the next are you letting off before the line? I have racing many different car at the track and the #s not add up.
There is no telling how much quicker it went becasue your traction is all over the place but it should be 3 tenths quicker if you could get it to hook.
Bob West Nov 23rd, 03, 10:52 AM Sounds like nitrous oxide to me,,,and its a light weight Camaro. 11.90-12.00
The problem I had with consistancy is that on my first trip I could not floor it off the line, or my car would bog down, it almost died on the first pass. I had to play with it and give it the gas slowly. I also shorty shift from time to time, on accident, so I probablly short shifted on that pass. Also I went into valve float on that pass because I had a rocker nut back off. So I did let off on that pass.
Okay, passes are in order. I did have a problem with traction. The BFGoodrich Drag Rad. didn't like the 3000 footbrake take off that I did. I am more than happy with my BTE converter!!!!!!

the reason for the inconsisitancy is the air pressure-never ran the tire with converter before , I didn,t know what air press. to run, was constantly letting it down the whole night, I finally stopped areound 18,around the 3 or 4 pass. I also could not leave at 3000 like I wanted to. I was playing this the foot brake RPM to try to find out what was the best. 2000-2500 still don't have it quite down yet.The car was spinning just a little bit on all passes though, just a little. The jets were also changed through out the night. But we still have more tunning to do . best time was with 70 Fr. and 73 Back. I think we are going to try 68 in FR. and 75 in Back next time. I am also going to bring some 28 in. slicks. I was running out of gear about 3/4 of track. I was going through at about 6500 maybe a little more RPM. The faster I got, the faster I hit third, faster I ran out of gear. I also managed to pull the wheels a couple of in. My dad told me one timee it looked about 3 in. both tires.
I STILL haven't hooked up my NO2 yet, but I have to get some tires that will hold first, or theres really no point. I swear I am not making this up, or spraying. So hows that for a little small block?
Adv. specs.
Converter 370$
foot brake 2500-2600

Actually will go 3000RPM foot brake, maybe a little more
Not to bad Huh?
Bob West Nov 23rd, 03, 1:06 PM Great times for a 355!! what does your car weigh???
It weighs about 2800-2900 with me in it.
19_chevelle_71 Nov 23rd, 03, 6:16 PM Man that is incredibly quick for such a mild combo. Am I correct in assessing you have picked up anywhere between 4-7 tenths by just the converter/jetting? Were the original times you posted about where the car usually ran prior to the converter? How tight would that converter be on the street?
Thanks
Darracq Nov 23rd, 03, 6:18 PM Put some slicks on it. I have found that if i just bring the converter up a little bit like 1800 or so it will leave better than tring to stall it up tight. Your car runs very good for what you have.
ejrempel Nov 23rd, 03, 8:22 PM I'm reading this, and like, just shaking my head. Granted the car is light, but it goes like stink!
The first trip was the first trip with this motor. 1900-2200 summit stall, basically stoc converter. The jetting would not be what I think gave me the faster times, because I was running 11'6's with the jetting the same as before. I did get a home made ram air set up on it though, which I know had to help some. Also I went faster through out the night, because of letting out tire pressure, and getting the hang of it better. But the humidity was getting worse through out the night. I think that I would have ran a little faster if I could have gotten the air pressure and feel of the car alot faster because the humidity wasn't that bad when we first got there.
Howerver I did learn that you can never under estimate what a converter can do for you. I am trying to get head lights in it, and see about affording insurance so I can drive it on the road some. I can really say much about how it drives on the street because I haven't really done it yet. I am going to try sone 28 slicks (MY Dad's) because of traction and I am running out of gear about 3/4 of track.
