I am reconditioning my fuel tank, and I have surface rust on the bottom. What is the most effective method of removing the rust, before I paint the tank. Thanks, Don http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

BBC Don,
Try to remove as much as possible with wire brush - remember to make sure the tank is completly empty as wire brushing can cause sparks. You can purchase a number of "surface rust" removers from local auto parts stores for initial cleaning. Most of these mix with water and make for a simple clean-up. Then I would suggest checking the POR-15 site http://www.por15.com and purchasing their products for the final restoration. They have complete information on how to use their products and in what order. I used them on my '66 gas tank then put on a final coat of high temp Cast Blast http://www.quantaproducts.com/paint/casblas.html to get the metal look back.
