After all these years I finally have my first project car, a 1968 Chevy Malibu. It all original with numbers matching 327 with "Camel Hump" heads and almost all of the original chrome. I have started to tear down the car to get it ready for what is to come. I have gutted the interior and painted it with POR15, there was not rust but why worry about that later. I have the front clip off and the motor and tranny sitting on the floor in my garage. Now comes the question.........is it worth more restored to original condition or not? I would love to shave the door handles, intall a cowl hood, throw on fat tires and trick out the motor. What will that do to the value of the car? Anyone have any insight?
Thanks for the help!

Worth is a tricky question. To some people a smallblock malibu all original isn't worth much, too others it may be their dreamcar. It depends on the quality of the work you do and a whole lot of other things. A restored car with crappy work will be worth far less than a modded car with top end builder quality.
In my opinion, do what you want to the car, don't worry about what others want. Unless your intention is to build it and sell it.

I went through the same thing with my 66. I made up my mind that I will build it how I like it and enjoy the car.
