lifters get really loud and you have a miss that gets worse by the minute, then eventually starts backfiring through the carb and won't run at all.

It will be in your oil pan/filter :confused:

Remove one valve cover at a time. Have some rags handy to catch any oil. Idle with the v/c off and watch the pushrods (mark with a sharpie). They should all be spinning continuously and at the same rate.

open the filter up. You should change the filter/oil after the initial breakin. If you find a ton of debris then you might be in trouble.
