I just got some new World Torquer heads and a Crane energizer cam for my small bolck 400 bored over to a 408. It has 9:1 compression. Can any one estimate how much hp I have from this little information.

you really need to give you cam specs. I'd guess around 495 if you have a 'well built' motor and decent cam.

I agree not enough info but 495hp with 9:1? Now thats mildly optimistic, I would be generous in starting with 400hp! I feel like this is kinda like the price is right of hp guessing! Please give us the buildup of engine to give reasonable educated estimates!

I didn't think that would be enough info, try this.
heads: S/R Torquer heads bare(straight plug, 67 cc chamber, cast iron.

Cam: Crane cam Energizer cam lift valve lift INT. .3200 EXH. .3200 INT. .480 EXH. .480

compression: 9:1

Thats a little better. But still, we need more. Whats the advertised and .050 duration for that camshaft? What about lobe center angle? If you could, provide a part number for that camshaft and we can check it out for ourselves. With that combo and a 750 carb, a high rise dual plane intake(eddy performer rpm) and headers and a comp 280 magnum cam, you might be able to do about 375 horsepower and about 450 torque. Maybe a little more, but not a whole lot more. I used that cam only because it also has .480/.480 lift, but duration numbers could vary between the two camshafts quite a bit, so that can make a big difference. Still, Im with blazerbob and if you get 400 horses out of it, that will be generous. Really, Id say somewhere between 365-380 at best. Post further cam specs or a part number if you can.

maybe this will help.I have a 406 with Dart iron eagle 215/64cc and 205 valves.kb pistons compression 9.73 eagle steel rods.air gap intake rejetted 700 dual line double pump with manual secondaries.cam @ 50 244 duration 510 lift with 1.5 roller tip rockers.Msd ignition.Dyno brake horsepower max 428.46 @ 5400 rpm. max tork was 461.16 @ 4400 rpm. I gained the last 8 hp with a one inch spacer plate called a super sucker. All on marathon premium gas.Tork is what pushes your car.Hope this helps you. Before we dyno'd we were guessing 460 to 480 hp and thats all any one is doing untill you dyno and tune.

I agree with Franksfever. How could you not with dyno numbers smile.gif With your combo I would assume anywhere from 380hp to 430hp and ~450lb-ft. A friend with a TPI 383 and the same cam you're using with 9.5:1 dyno'd 280rwhp and 435lb-ft to the wheels with a WC T5 tranny.
