Ok...so I am preparing my rear end for the disk conversion kit that I bought for the rear end from ground up. I have broken down the original drum brakes but would like to know if I have to remove the back plate that is behind all the drum guts?

If this is the case...it looks like I have to remove the axles to do this job? Is this true? And if so, how do I do it? Hopefully the conversion kit will just mount to that back plate but I have a feeling it won't.

Thanks !

Don't know about being able to use the drum brake backing plates with the discs....but, yes, you have to remove the axles to remove the backing plates. Do a search here for specific info on removing the axles. Hardest part for me was getting the center cross shaft pin out.

Had to use a disc brake backing plate on mine. The drum one would not work.

Drum plate won't work with discs.
Most rear disc kits don't require a backing plate. A caliper mounting bracket attaches to the tube flange where the plate used to be.
