You might want to contact Dave Ray a.k.a IgnitionMan, he's an ignition "guru", to see what his opinions are on the Jacobs ignitions.
His email is: sparkman451@earthlink.com
Just a thought.

I run one. I've never had anything but(I just transfer it from car to car) so I can't say it's "better" than anything else. All I can say is it works. The heavens didn't open up when I bought it so I'd say it's comparable to MSD or others.

A friend of mine, and myself really dig their Coils though. I run my coil with an MSD box and it runs a hair smoother than with the MSD GM II coil.

I'm running a full prostreet Jacobs ignition. Works fine, but there is probably better out there. The CD really keeps the plugs cleaner and it fires up instantly, lots of juice to run it high up, but who knows.

I ran one years ago. Didn't have enough spark energy at idle. Had to add compensation resistors and gap the plugs at .125" . Still wasn't happy. Ended up putting the stock HEI back on. I like the plug wires though.

My stock 28,000 volt HEI produced a slightly better ET than a Jacobs "Pro Street" ignition in back to back to back tests at the dragstrip. Big claims, big marketing from Jacobs. My results say to keep the stock $15 GM HEI. It's just amazing sometimes how good that GM stuff is, and how some aftermarket companies fail in trying to improve upon it.

Yeah, .125", and it would fire well to 6000 rpm. They suggested I keep opening the gap to help the idle/bottom end. I stopped when I thought it was getting out of hand.
