Man what a pain. I spent a couple of hour last night and a couple tonight measuring, drilling, and installing the trim rivets and emblem holes for my new tailgate shell. I got a really good tip from an old timer, suprisingly simple. Took a piece of masking paper and made a template. I measured the 4 holes for the trim as well. I used masking tape to make straight lines and transferred all of my rivet locations and emblem locations from my original tailgate. I even had to cut out the hole in the bottom for the reverse light harness.
The other thing I did was to take my original fenders and make templates for the "El Camino" emblems and the "SS 396" emblems. I made the pattern from the masking paper to transfer to my NOS fenders. Looks like it's gonna work out really nice. Sure beats the heck out of measuring things out to have them come out crooked. That's one of my pet peeves...crooked or misplaced SS emblems. I may save those fender templates for future use or if someone else needs them. Later
