Hi guys, i'm looking at putting together a respectable sunday driver combo for my car... i'm looking at a used setup for the top end... the car is a 67, with a TH350, probably looking for an honest 350+ hp at the crank... I just sold my engine (430hp 350), 4:56 gears, 4000 stall and i'm looking for something a little more mild for more driving time...

The top end i'm looking at:
-Edelbrock perf. alum. heads 70cc comb. chamber, 170cc intake 2.02/1.6 (these are not RPM heads, not sure of the difference)
-Edelbrock perf. RPM intake
-Edelbrock 750CFM carb, i also have a 650DP Holley.

I am in the market for a short block, and convertor to match the combo... i want something with lumpy idle, decent vacuum and driveability with a hydraulic cam...

I have a choice of 3:73 or 4:10 gears on the shelf...

I will probably go with a 350 short block, but would consider a 400.... probably not a stroker since i'm building on a budget although a 406 sounds interesting

what type of cam? voodoo? or comp xe? edelbrock rpm? and what stall speed? what piston (or CR) should i aim for? flat top w/valve reliefs?

thanks in advance for advice!

350 cu 9.5- 10cr/flat tops w/reliefs AFR Street Eliminator 180cc 65c, Voodoo 262, Comp Cams Magnum roller tip rockers 1.5 ratio, comp magnum pushrods 080 wall thickness, Weiand Stealth airstrike. Spend the extra $400 on the AFR'S they run all over those eddy's, Better yet go to AFR'S website and look up their power combo's.;)

Use your topend , it is all perfect for an honest 350 h.p
.I would go with the trw forged flatops (ebay has a guy that sells them for 160.00 buy now!! )As for the cam go with something in the 224-228 @.050 duration, and 470-490 lift, with 108-110 lobecenter. THIS should see 350 h.p
You will need a small stall 24-2600 . The 3.73 gears will be perfect as well.

I concur! Id shoot for closer to 10:1 compression if you can help it. 9.5:1 is fine, but Id like 10:1 is all. The performer heads....although not the greatest high performance head since sliced bread......they are still a definite improvement over stockers. They got the potential to do what you want to do.

Use that intake and Id probably like the 650DP best. Its a nice carb for this sorta app if dialed in well. However....since you got em both, try em both. Had descent luck with the eddy 750 carbs as well on 350 based engines. It drives well and doesnt dissapoint for the most part.......the holley can drive just fine and has the edge if dialed in right.

Id prefer the 3.73's, a voodoo 268 hydraulic, and a converter that stalls a minimum of 2400. Less would do...but less isnt worth it for me. A little more if youd like, but not much. Some 1 3/4 headers, just a descent HEI and your good to go.

Wouldnt be surprised if it went north of 350 horses....nice enough driving manners for a sunday cruiser. Just curious.....what was the old camshaft?

One last note....if you can score a bigger small block...all the better. The horsepower gets tamer(assuming its a similar build but within a larger engine). In other words...a well built 350 horsepower 400 will be a bit tamer than a well built 350 horsepower 350.

And even if you start with a 350....if you do in fact need a crank, buy a 383 crank! Your buying either way(assuming you need a crank) so for the most part were talking about the same dollars. If you score a good block with a good crank that doesnt need lots of money invested to run it....then Id stick with the stock crank. Its capable and good enough for this kinda build. But once again.....if you do need to buy a new crank, no reason not to stroke it(the 350 block.....I wouldnt stroke the 400...If you ended up with a 400 block Id put another 400 crank in it whether it needs a new crank or not).

I had a crower solid cam, adv. duration 288/292 540/543 lift, 105 lobe seperation, 256/262 dur .050" ...had 11:1, brodix -8 heads (flowed 246cfm)...

The edelbrock combo is available to me used -heads, carb, intake for $900...thats why i'm considering this combo..or else i would go to some other brand of heads...afr or brodix...

The car has 1.75" headers, 3" exhaust, i have a HV mech fuel pump and accell hei that is pinned, i will switch this back to springs...

I havent seen the intake yet, would the eddy 750 require a square port intake? if the intake isnt square hole can i still try the holley 650??

any advantages or disadvantages to the 350 vs. 400? cooling issues with a 400 block? would the bigger CI automatically equate to a few more HP with everything else being equal?

thanks,
andrew
