My car is a '67 Chevelle w/283 and needs new Exhaust system. I have been considering Series 40 because they are shorter than Series 50 and would allow more space for tail pipe offset to clear the floor pan. However, I wonder if the 40's would be too loud. Would appreciate any opinions.

I had 40 series on a small block and on a big block. They are pretty loud on strong big block or a done up small block, But thought that on a milder motor the weren't as ground shaking. But I always liked waking up my neighbors. I'm only going on personal experience, maybe someone can be more specific.

I had 40's on my 454 with 3" pipes. When i put the motor in the wagon, the speed shop was out of the stainless 40's, so I went with the hooker mufflers, they sound good, I think a more mello sound than the flowmasters, and i liked flowmaster. Anyway just another idea thrown out there.

67 name? I have 40's on my 64 chevelle, and your right they do allow a little more room that is needed for tailpipes. I found when I put the h pipe in it made it a little better,Less noise and a little more tq. I agree with John on a stock engine might not be all that loud. Ralph smile.gif

I have 50's on a full 3" system running about 650-700 hp and they are REAL loud. Idle isn't to bad, but part and wide open throttle have gotten me pulled over a few times.
