My block had an oil cooler or something hooked up to it. I had to get a conversion filter kit. I bought Mr. Gasket 1270 The washer fits under the adapter, but the adapter sticks out a little bit, probably doesnt matter but the bolts are a completely different thread, way to small. New bolts, or a new kit? It says all big block and small blocks on it. But I just looked in a book and it says 57-67. My block is an 89/90. I know MOST things fit from 65-90, not sure....

If you have a truck motor, the oil cooler adapter can be removed. Simply unbolt it and use a stock GM filter mount. It bolts directly to the block with two 5/16" bolts.

If your unsure of what this looks like, I can run out to the shop and snap a pic of the factory filter mount.

here is what you want.

http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/317/GM-Performance-Oil-Filter-Adapter-and-Bolts.htm

You want either the first item or the last one...not sure what the difference is as there's only an X different in the part number, but the descritpions look identical. The 1990 block is the same also as 1991 was when they changed to the MK 5 block.

Don't forget to order the bolts.

Yeah it was a truck motor. It had an oil cooler adapter on, I pulled it off and dont know what happened to it! Probably tossed it :( Didnt need it anyways. This Mr Gasket 1270 Wont work if I get different bolts?

Phil

67 and prior small and big blocks used a canister oil filter with a paper filter element. the mr gasket 1270 is used to convert the old canister type to a spin on filter, which wont work for you.

you need the part that Todd linked to above.

you should be able to get this at any local chevy dealer, they should have it in stock considering it fits both small and big block.

go to the local u pull it yard and get one off a core motor or one in a car. cost is next to nothing but that oil cooler adapter goes for 20+ bucks on ebay.

This kit is just for the spin on type filters right? I dont want a cooler or anything, which one on ebay are you reffering to? I probably should have gone to a yard but I dont even have a car right now and its a pain just getting to work, bumming rides and cruising on the cannondale ;) I didnt want to wait for any ebay auctions to end either so I just ordered from this place above, I hope they get it to me quickly. Thanks for the link! I made sure to order my bolts too. Oil filter kit & a fuel pump push rod, theres another $60 unexpected. tongue.gif Im topping high dollar ammounts on this build! Errr
