I have looked around for the paint formula or stock number for 1970 Code 58 Dark Gold metallic (autumn gold) and have yet to find it. I looked online and in PPG it seems like the only thing available is shopline (cheap stuff). I would rather use a quality paint...I already have a gallon of Omni that I got for free but I have used Omni before and that stuff wouldn't cover for anything (Daytona Yellow).
Also while I have your ears I have a clear question...Which clear? 2055 or 3000? I will be painting in my garage and I know some clears are "booth clears" and some are panel or spot clears. What do I want for a deep shine? I am not looking to cheap out with some $50 clear. Thanks

I am working on it for my car. How soon do you need it? I used a favor and got a pint of lacquer from ppg factory , mixed from the 1971 formula. Will spray a test card and have it scanned by the local Sikkens paint store. You can also have a scan done if you have a big enough area with original paint.

You should be able to go to any auto paint supplier and have them mix it for you. Just reference the stock code GM 58 and they should have it listed. If not, try this code, RM A-2272, RM stands for Rinshed-Mason, a high end paint. They should be able to cross it into a DuPont Chromabase or PPG Deltron. I used DuPont 7900S clear with a mid temp activator on the Charger and it came out perfect.

Both are great clears, sprayed many gallons of both. The DC3000 is a 3 panel clear. It is NOT made for doing complete paint jobs. If you plan on painting the entire car at once this clear is NOT for you.
DC3000 sprays and flows like water a great clear. PPG came out with DC4000 with is DC3000 but meant for completes as it dries much slower.

I have never sprayed DC4000 nor heard much about it. The 2055 is also a great product, prefer it over 2042, and 2021. 2042 has a rep of turning yellow on white/lighter colors. 2021 was is the VOC replacement for 2020 which I never liked and really dont like 2021 either.

All the PPG reps Ive talked too at PPG training shcools say DC3000 is the cleanest clearest clear they make followed by 2055.
I mixed 2055 with DCX61 and 1.25-1.5 parts of DT reducer, depending on how much needed to be painted and temp.

The lowest DT reducer Id use is DT870, DT880 or Dt885 would be the better choices.
The most coats of 2055 you want to put on at once is three coats, dont apply more. If you want more then three coats you need to allow the first three to cure for a few days, come back sand the clear and apply more.

Ive got a '02 chrysler 300M that I put a complete paint job on back in 2002. Three coats of 2055 and buffed it. Still looks like it was sprayed yesterday. Got some other stuff that was done with 3 coats, sanded with 800 grit and 3 more coats.
