I will be replacing the grill on my 67 in the next week or so, and was looking at it just before, and I see about 5 screws at the bottom holding it on, and the hood latch has a bolt that is also through it, so that will have to be removed. My question is, there appears to be about 7 "rivets" across the top of the grill attaching it to a metal crossbar underneath it. Are these in fact holding that in place, and if so how do you remove them? Thanks Shawn

On my 65 I had to drill out those rivets on top to get the grille out. I got a handheld rivet gun with some aluminum rivets to pop in when I'm ready to put the grille back in.

Oh ok, I thought they might have been just regular rivets. I have a handheld rivet gun at the house. I'll just have to go out and buy some stainless rivets then. Thanks

Your other option is stainless bolts that have a smooth head to look like rivets. However, to me it seems like it's a pretty tight space to try to get a nut on a bolt behind the grill. I have another car that somebody already installed a new grille in and they put in new rivets and it looks fine to me and is functional. I know the concourse purists will say otherwise.

A handheld rivet gun will NOT install the correct rivets. You will notice the originals don't have a hole thru them.
I use the small rivet headed bolts...look like a rivet up top and can't see the nut on the underside.
Bought mine from here...

Aside from the hood latch and the rivets on the radiator support and valance panel, the center support assembly and two reinforcement supports that are held on by the rivets as well.
There is room to get your hand between the back of the grille and the radiator/support side but it's tight if you want to use a screw/rivet and nut scenario.
Be aware the back side of these grilles are VERY sharp. Very easy to cut a finger, back of the hand, arm, etc.
Also make sure you get the proper (correct) grille. The 300/300 Deluxe/Malibu grille are different than the SS grille. Many reproductions are incorrect on both types. See one of my sites, http://www.freewebs.com/chevellephotos/ and check the Grilles link.

I'm going to get my new grille from OPGI, and they specify that the sell the SS grille and Malibu grille, which I need the Malibu one. Ever deal with their grilles?

If your in Raleigh, NC why not try www.oldmusclecars.com (http://www.oldmusclecars.com) called Classic Muscle from Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem. I have been real happy with them. Good price & good shipping price. They also have the original style rivets; but you will need a special tool to install them.
