The previous owner installed a chrome timing pointer that is now in bad shape. I want to buy a new pointer but I want to make sure I buy the correct one. I have seen posts where people have bought the wrong one causing timing problems. Do I just measure the diameter of my balancer and buy the pointer made for that specific diameter?. Thanks for any advice!

I really dont think it makes a difference, but I might be wrong. If you look at the timing tab pointers in the Auto Parts store, they are ALL listed for 6,7,8 inch balancers. I think the main thing is the readability issue. I have one of these pointers on a 6 3/4 balancer, and it sits higher over teh balancer than it normally would. However, I really dont think it makes any difference, as its only like a 1/4 of an inch. Its a little easier to read the timing numbers when it is closer in relation to the timing mark, but I dont have a problem reading mine. I cant see why there would be a difference providing the balancer is the right one for teh car, and your timing tab goes in the "conventional" spot.
