I bought a Ford 9" "A" body style rear end for my 72, boxed my stock lower controll arms, purchased a GM rear sway bar. When I went to install the sway bar, it slightly hits the bottom on the rear end housing. :( Any suggestions? Anyone run into this situation with their project? Is heating and slightly bending the sway bar a possibility? How much clearance between the two should their be? Man I hope their is a solution to this without a major modification. Thanks ahead of time for your ideas and/or suggestions.

Well, I guess nobody puts Ford parts on their GM muscle car! :) There must be someone who has experienced this, or at least heard of another traitor who has done the same thing.

maybe make some adapter plates that move the mounting points down below the control arms instead of into the side.
or sell that sway bar and get one out of a Camaro that bolts to the axle tubes and has the end links go up to the frame, like those "new" sway bars that are available. hell, maybe get a similar sized sway bar off a mid size Ford that has a 9" rear in it and make it work.

I had the same issue and finally bought a spohn bar for the rear. It touches the jack pad on the rear but if you don't have a jack pad on it it should be ok.

Had the same problem when i installed the 9" in my 70 and found a minute in the hydraulic press was all it needed to make it fit.

I have a 9" as well, i use the SSM bars as lowers and the Hotchkis sway bar fits fine. The SSM bars lower the rear pivot though...
