I think I need to change my name, for my current short 2+ years of bracket racing,I've been in the money at least 12 times, semi finals once, runner up in a couple gamblers races, but mostly the quarter finals, just like last night, I need to go another round graemlins/clonk.gif can't do it when you breakout though,,,last week 10.33 on a 10.35,this week 10.267 on a 10.27  still had fun though graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Well at least your car has a running motor in it at the moment. Mine is headless smile.gif

So you keep breaking out, huh.....

"A little too Rapid Robert"
"Premature Robert" Uh oh, that didn't come out right.
Forget it, just stick with your current name.

Did Gene go to the chevellabration this year? Someday I'm gonna make it down there, got plans to do Colorado in a month, then the Coloradoans are coming back to Missouri in august, vacation used up... probably would have had more fun in Nashville, need to see if I can run with Marooned

Yeah I did Bob. I swear, if you went once, you'd be hooked! It's a great time. Didn't run at the track. Not the place to try and better the 60'.

Did you drive down? It seems like you sure made it home quick, what days does it run? thurs-sat.?

I have to go to that one day too.

Gene,
Can you swing by pick me up on the way down next year ?

Tom, I always prefer to have someone riding shotgun with me, just makes the ride that much shorter with company. But you'd have to make your way West, I don't go to Nashville via Albany! Sure though, anytime. More the merrier.

Robert, yes Sir. Drove down and back. 10.5 hours each way. Not bad. log shows anywhere from 14.87 to 16.0 calculated mpg, so it was kind on gas, for a rat anyway. ALOT cheaper than trailering. The 14.87 was chasing down Dave Gardner in his red 67 with 327 and OD. He likes to fly! Turning 2100-2200 rpm when Old Red is turning 3350.

How about "BracketMaster", or is that too pretentious? Cause, man , you're good!

Marooned had a nasty ignition/breakup thing going on, but still ran respectible times. SOB runs a motor breaking up and makes the same power as I do! I told Mike to be sure and shake that car down before he comes next year, so his runs are clean. Its a hard track to race on, I think, and doubly so when you're fighting tuning issues.

You'd better get that new motor together Bob. Marooned is gunning for Bill's Camino's new 540 ( Bill ran a 7.001 on his shakedown run), and on the bottle, that sum-b might just catch Bill's 540!

Anyway, we've had some disagreements in the past Bracketmaster Bob, but being a "manually-shifted" dummy, I can't remember yesterday or anything back a year if'n I choose not to. It would be a pleasure to shake your hand sir.

Just don't ask me to line up ag'in ya. Old Tom here already made me look like my pants were around my ankles once! Ain't linin' up vs 10 second cars no more! just too darn humbling' graemlins/thumbsup.gif

If nothing comes up,I'm gonna shoot for next year. I don't think I want to drive mine that far, about 8 hours to Nashville, might be hard on the new roller cam and springs too,,,got it from Comp today :D 781's are in the shop too graemlins/thumbsup.gif There is you and several that I'd like to meet from this board, always enjoy a good bench racing session while drinking a cold one. Do quite a few trailer in? Is it tough to get a room? I spent the evening in Springfield tonight, cruising the chevelle and watching the cars go by, the Power Tour is in town tonight,,the estimate some 3500-4000 cars at the fairgrounds  and more Chevelles than I've ever seen, even at the Street Machine Nationals.

Bob, wait until you see the show field at a CB event!

Trailers are no problem, most cars are trailered in it seems ( and with an SR and an 8 hour run - no doubt I'd trailer). The Baymont had a large lot next door designated for trailers, and most folks drop their trailers on the show field ( just above it), roll their car off and leave the trailering rig for the weekend sitting right there. Either way, it's set up for trailered cars for sure.

I;d make the reservations early. Best Western is "party central", but all the hotels are within a mile of each other.

Hope you can make it!

Oh, forgot to mention, in order to regisiter for the show, you have to be an ACES member. ( some don't like that) Have a great day Bob!

Your doing good, learn from your losses and try to figure a way to avoid them again. If you are dialing hard, hey it happens, if you are holding one or two you have to be willing to hit the brakes or hope for a double break out.Generally if you are the faster car you can get up on their fender and lift and coast by.When your not you can keep your foot in the gas and gently drag the brakes.Try not to hog up the finish line,if you can take the stripe try to keep it as tight as possible around a hundredth or so.If you can't get there first dump them without it being obvious or they will jam the brakes too.It is all just seat time practice practice practice.

robert you need to play close attention to fat rat i can see he knows how to bracket race.one thing for sure you have to learn how to race both ends of the track and some times you still cant win because of the luck fackter.i think there are alot of us out there that just cant make the finnal round as a winner but i always have fun and cant wait to try again.good luck

Is the ACES membership a one time 40.00? or are there annual dues also? which include the magazine too?

427L88
Jun 8th, 04, 9:41 PM
Robert, that's annual dues and yes, you get Chevelle World with that.

Jun 8th, 04, 9:47 PM
or you could give up the bracket racing, and do some real racing, Heads Up! :D
seriously, i understand what you mean. i was on a roll one night and got down to the final and cut a .508 light and ran a 7.322 on a 7.32 dial....problem was the guy i was racing cut a .506 light and ran 7.081 on a 7.08 dial!
BTW, .500 is a perfect light at that track. ;)
very frustrating! that was the closest i ever came to winning Pro class at my home track. i just race trohpy class now, since i can't afford to race heads up, and i don't really care about bracketracing enough to get serious about it anymore. i just go to tune my car, i don't lift on the other end, i just dial it down to a time i don't think i can run, and if it does breakout, then i'm happy, because that means i just ran my best time ever. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I'm trying to keep it on the street, no way I can compete in a heads up class doing that. I'll take my top 10 in points with a real street car w/slicks on it ;) I had it out last night cruising with the Power Tour guys that were in town, sucked down half a tank of gas, just playing around graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Robert, did you happen to hang out with Fred and the MR gang? i guess they had their Malibu Meet over the weekend. i can never get on that message board at MR for some reason  so i don't know what's going on or how it went.
BTW, that was a joke about the heads up comment. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I looks like you break out all the time, in my day they call that sand bagging smile.gif smile.gif

Try running the car flat out or is the car getting quicker as the day wears on. My chevy II would do that, run a tenth quicker out of no where. It was real picky about traction and running in the low 10s made it a problem at tracks with less than perfect conditions.

Stop bitching, your car is running, mine has been apart for 3 years graemlins/angry.gif graemlins/angry.gif graemlins/angry.gif

Bob, it's amazing isn't it!? Old Red can get real decent highway milage. On the other hand, for example, I let Zak Parson's ( DZAUTO's son), drive the car back from the track and beat up on it some. We probably drove around for 40 miniutes, playing, 1/4 tank of gas! Well once he figured out that the detent you feel in the gas pedal are the outboard carbs. It amazing once you start opening iup the secondaries, it goes from say 14 mpg to like 5.

Hey Wally,,,my e.t. is in my 60ft...my best time run of the day was 10.25 so yeah I backed it off a couple with the 10.27 dial, just in case I spin a little off the line , I wasnt really bitching, more like publicly criticizing myself :D

M71 I no longer hang out at the Malibu board, got into it with Fred...edited the rest, need to be kinder and gentler :D

What gears are you running Gene? I can get 8-12 light footing mine around town.

427L88
Jun 9th, 04, 8:57 AM
3.31s is all Bob. The 5 speed tranny equates to 4.33s in 1st thru 4th. Perfect 1/4 mi as it tops out in 4th gear, crossing the stripe at 6750 rpm or so. Around town, Old Red does the same as your 1320' bruiser. It's the cruise mpg that's sweet.

Keep winning them races Sir!

Kirk I think Bob runs on a 1,000 ft long track.

Just keep at it Bob, I find that sometimes I lose on a great pass because the other guy was just better, and some times I'm late off the line but get a gift from the other lane. It all evens out in the end.

I've run a best of 11.78 twice,,,ran 11.85 last july on drag radials thru the exhaust on a 1/4 mile track. My weekly bracket race in No/E is on a 1000ft. track. My current combo is partially a BSE combo,.030 over 454, solid flat tappet Lunati cam 549/558 300/310 232/239@.050, no work has been done to my current heads cept larger valves 2.19/1.88's 1.75" headers 10.5-1 comp, ebrock rpm intake,950HP. I am in the process of building a 468,heads are in the shop, brand new comp solid roller on the floor over there smile.gif with .100 more lift on both sides, less adv duration,on a 107 lsa.., with the cam and headwork and same compression I'm hoping for a 10.99 sec timeslip in the 1/4 mile. If I run outta money I plan on freshening the motor I have and installing cam and heads on it this winter.
