I just bought a fresh repop SS hood for my 72 el camino. Should I use a repop rear edge molding or an original GM molding? I have heard many people say repop with repop and GM with GM. Which way to go?

15 years ago the gm molding wouldn't fit the gm hood. I have a goodmark hood and molding fits good

I take it your current hood is a reproduction and the rear trim is a GM piece.

Hey All-

I am running into the same issue with the rear hood molding not fitting good on a repro hood. I bought the molding a while ago and don't know if it was a GM or Repro. Right now molding doesn't cover the lip on the backside of the hood so you can see the "lip" that is stamped into the hood.

Any way to tell whether the modling is a GM or repro other then talking it off the car?

Appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks,

John

Thanks,

JohnI replaced my original cowl hood with a new GM NOS cowl induction hood and used the original molding, The molding didnt cover the stamped lip either, I had to grind about 1/8" off the rear lip all the way across. I've seen others like this too.

I have a repop ss hood with original GM molding, and the fit is not good. The molding doesn't fit tight on the end and everytime I open the hood, the corner of the molding pops off. I've heard of people having to grind the back of the hood to get it to fit, but I don't feel like taking my hood off just to do that.
