I watched horsepower tv today and they were using a new crane cam and valve springs that were media blasted with walnut shells. Whats the skinny on these? are they not as new as i think ? Maybe a older show, as i have not watched it for awhile.

I have NO idea why they would walnut shell media blast new parts unless it's just ta do a final de-burr/clean-up???
Sounds like they have way too big a filming budget to do something like this, imho.....

This is as PDQ mentioned, deburring for removal of stress risers, but you would think that a company like Crane would have done this in the manufacturing process. Maybe these media shot springs were used?

it definitly was to help the springs live. they said they would be less prone to break. they also had the cam that had this treatment( why ) it was a hyd roller with 800+ lift ! this was going in the 572 that used to be in the tubbed nova they built. they are now adding a f2 procharger for 1500 hp. all going in a 79 bu they are building.
