Hey all, I'm new here. I was wondering if you guys know where I can get a relatively cheap one piece front end for my 69 Chevelle. I'm still deciphering the codes on the thing, but I was told it was a 396ss with the four speed. Anyway, the car is absolutely decrepid so she has a date with my Sawzall and therefore will lose soem pounds be be a contender at the local street legal drags. What do you guys do to lighten these things?

U.S. Body source makes one. They have 2 different versions. you might get better info if you post this on the "body" forum.

Let's see; you have the sawzall out and are installing a fiberglass front end and you want ideas on how to lighten the car?

Just keep going down that path, I'm not sure that I need to tell you to remove everything that you can live without. Past the sawzall and parts removal your budget will decide how far you can go.

I have mostly just removed non essentials. To go further: Obviously aluminum everything in place of steel, lexan windows, aluminum floors, an Alston front clip with rack and pinion, aluminum calipers, a plastic master cylinder, a compact dry cell battery (I use a Harley battery in my '65), Bogart wheels, aluminum driveshaft, fiberglass door shells and decklid, Pro Stock seat, etc.

Good luck, let us know how low you go.

Thomas

Thanks for the link, sschevellefan, I think the price of $1,100 is a bit steep, but at least it will let me keep my original 396ss grill. That's what I was worried about.

Hey sschevelle fan, I carried this topic over to here: http://www.chevelles.com/cgi-bin/forum/ultimatebb.cgi/topic/4/23839.html?
