Do a seach in the heating and cooling forum using "fan clutch" or "non thermal"..guess my advice and experience wasn't good enough or helpful ;) :D (just kidding-I know you can handle a jab)

Non thermal is the best way to go.It disengages at highways speed and works best idling and in mild traffic.

Hey Chris I only asked you what cooled the best. You also say it is the best for performance? Meaning horse power draw! Thanks for all your help!

I use thermal,(with the spring on front of clutch), factory GM for 1970. 12 years old and runs at 160-180' never overheat with 4 core and shroud. stock like the general meant it to be. your own choice ,just avoid flex fans. thermal or non ,both are equally fine.

Hey guys I understand how a thermal clutch works. How exactly does a non-themal work and at what RPM do they disengage? Rpm is what makes them break free right??? Why did the general put a thermal on the mighty LS-6??? Sorry for all the ? but my brain needs to know! Thanks in advance!

Oldsmobile had non thermal clutches on 442's
I don't think anyone will have a specific answer.
You can always go back to your stock 4 blade fan ;)
I believe around 2000 RPM's and up the non thermal disengages

..did you do a search in the heating/cooling forum yet?

The 7 blade/non thermal cluch fan set up is hard to beat graemlins/thumbsup.gif

A non thermal clutch works like a torque converter in reverse,,,engaged at slow speeds, then freewheels at higher rpms.

Chris just got back from Ground up purchased there 7 blade fan and ordered a NON-THERMAL clutch from my parts supplier. Four seasons. If it does not work it is your fault! :D
Thanks again for your input!
