: 67 SS Chevelle Conv
dirkey Jul 27th, 07, 4:49 PM I was wondering if any of you guys can tell me what a 67 Chevelle SS convwould be worth. I just got it finished it is a 396/350 40 over all org except the block, M20 4speed , manual top , buckets , console, new white top and boot, all new interior, disc brakes i added, rallies and 14 inch B F goodrich tires, 12 bolt 3.31 posi. Everything on this car was rebuilt or replaced. I have GM documents stating it was 1 of 106 built for Canada. It is Nantucket blue with the white top. I live in Ontario Canada and have never seen another SS Conv. Does anybody know how many where built in the USA. Mine was built in Oshawa Ontario Oct 1966. The only option on the car was the Astro Buckets with the headrest, but the kid threw them away because they where ripped up. I got a set now with the headrest but didn't have them at the time of restorration. I was thinking of +putting it on Ebay but need a idea what it's worth. One guy offered me 47,000 Canadian but R&M restoration said it should bring between 80 and 90 maybe more. Thanks for any help you guys can give me

Some questions come to mind. Is it a SS396 (13867) or a Malibu (13667) with the A51 Sports Option (bucket seats and console)? That determination would then leave if/then questions on some other items. Must have more options than described unless it came with the 396 and 4-speed as standard equipment. It's been modified with at least disc brakes, rally wheels (not bad, just not original), engine block isn't original but since everything else is, I take that to mean the heads, intake, carb, etc.?
It's worth at least 47,000 Canadian to one person but that may be the only person that thinks so. Hard to say without more information and pictures, pictures, pictures. I think 80K/90K is a stretch for an unoriginal resto-modded 67 convertible but it only takes two interested parties and one buyer. I don't think you'd ever get that kind of money on eBay.
Before you sell it though, I'd like to see some photos of the car, trim tag, and paperwork and maybe include the information on my 1967 Reference CD.
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE Jul 27th, 07, 6:55 PM Can I ask.. why are you are selling it if you just finished it??

dirkey Jul 27th, 07, 10:03 PM Ace this is a 138 car,and it did come with the 396 Muncie 20 4 speed, It was apprased at 52,000 Canadian. I had to take it to a Gm dealer and have them verifie that the No. hadn,t been tampered with. When i sent the Vin No to Oshawa Ontario they called me at home to see where i got the car. I was told it was aTrue SS Conv built Oct 66 and that the only opition was the seats. They then sent me the documentation which i have now. The only reason the block was changed is the org. was crack and broke in 3 places.Heads intake carb crank are all the org. Your right about if 2 guya want it , but R&M Restoration in Chatham Ontario is as big as Barrett Jackson. I can send you pics if you send me a email address i don,t know how to do it on here. Thanks for your help. Have you seen many of these in the US
dirkey Jul 27th, 07, 10:13 PM Ace all the 138 SScars in Canada where the 396 cubic innothing smaller i don't know about the 427. But i know they came with the 325,350 hp. and also back then you could order what you wanted. My dad bought one brand new with the 396/325 it had bench seat and 3 speed Auto on the coloum.White with a black top Dirkey
Cam Jul 27th, 07, 11:26 PM In the documentation I have for the early '67 models the SS396 models sold in Canada were initially all built in the U.S. and imported to Canada. After a few months they began to actually produce the SS396 in Canada. Occasionally a '67 SS396 would be shipped new from the U.S. to Canada after that point, like the Butternut Yellow L78 known to be sold new in the Maritimes.
I am curious, does your v.i.n. have a '1' as the 6th character, or is it a 'B', or what? I have never heard of a 138-series Chevelle built in Oshawa before New Years 1967. Stories as to the cutoff date for the 'Malibu SS - the Malibu with the A51 Sports Option' fall anywhere from late November to late-December of '66.
An early price list for the '67s show the SS396, Concours wagon & El Camino to all be imported models, while domestically they produced the 300 & Malibu series, including the Malibus optioned into being a Malibu SS (sometimes with a 396). Later price lists show the SS396 as being domestically produced, and showing the typically shorter list of options offered in Canada. I have never seen an optional axle ratio listed on any price list for a Canadian-built '67 Chevelle, nor have I heard of one. With a 396/350 and a manual transmission the default 3.55 was used. In the U.S. a 3.31 ratio was one of several optionally available ratios with the drivetrain.
Headrests for a '67 are pretty rare but are now being reproduced; however they are far from cheap.
GM Canada's Vintage Vehicle Services can document your car if it was produced here OR if it was built in the U.S. but sold new here.
I'm very curious to learn where your car was built. It sounds like a beautiful car.
BTW, do you have any pictures of the completed car? If you are willing to email them to me, my email is milne@planeteer.com. Thanks, and I'd love to help if I can.

Here's an old photograph that I found in a 1970 brochure printed for the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada). Given how rare the '67 SS396 convertibles were in Canada, and given that your Ontario car is Nantucket Blue with few options, well I have to wonder...
Take a look at the picture & see the SS396 convertible with the standard small hubcaps. If you really squint (I know it's grainy) you can almost see a dealer emblem on the left side rear panel, a common place for dealers to place their nameplates.
The other inset picture, again desperately grainy, is a new 1969 Firebird sitting outside the service entrance to Hamilton Motor Products (HMP) at their old location at the corner of Main & Bay. They are still in Business today (I went to school with the owner's son) but have moved to highway 20 & Centennial Parkway.

If in fact the only option was the seats, then the transmisson would be a three speed would it not?
DaleM Dec 14th, 07, 9:15 PM My dad bought one brand new with the 396/325 it had bench seat and 3 speed Auto on the coloum.White with a black top DirkeyCanada must have been different in that area as well. All U.S.-built 66/67 SS Chevelles had 3-speeds standard but were floor mounted shifters, i.e., no column shift 3-speed SS cars.
Snigwiggler Dec 14th, 07, 9:43 PM No such thing as a 66/67 SS 3 speed on the column here in Canuckville either.:noway:
