First Question

Has anyone ever swapped a set of open chamberChamber BBC rectangle port heads for a pair of Edelbrock "Rovals" ? I am looking to get more low end perf and the Chevy Rectangles are noted for killing low speed responsiveness. What was the effect of this head swap if any of you folks have done it. Not interested in flow numbers and runner lengths and all that jazz..I just want some info on the net "seat of the pants" result of the swap.

Second question.

Does anyone know what a SBC weighs? I am geting ready to move one into my basement for long term storage. I have to go over an unpaved grass area and down a fairly steep hill to get to my basement access. The hill and the grass are the issue. Moving that thing over grass on a hand truck or a dolly can be a PIA so I am wondering just how much the darn thing weighs.

This is an all cast iron engine without a clutch and flywheel bit it does have heads and a steel intake manifold. I believe I have heard that fully "dressed" SBC engines are around 525 Lbs but I could be wrong. Since this one has no starter, exhaust manifolds, alternator, clutch PP and flywheel, carb and distrib can I conclude I am down around 400 LBS?

I gave not done the head swap. I can suugest that you need to know the combustion chamber sizes to know if you wiil increase or decrease your compression ratio.

You wouldm't be too far off on the engine weight. I'd get 2 sheets of plywood to cover the grass - and a second person to help. JMO

The E-heads have slightly smaller chambers than the GM heads. Already checked that out. Compression increase will be negligable.
