: Transporting a vehicle
FlameOut Jul 25th, 07, 6:26 PM I asked this question in a previous thread, but it was in the Bench Racing forum, and it seems to fit better here. Hope that's ok
I was hoping to purchase a Chevelle, that is located about 600 miles from me. I don't think I can drive it that distance, and towing with my vehicle is out also. I looked into DeMoise Trucking (Seemed like many here recommended them) but they said they rarely go to VT, but it would be $1000.
Can anyone recommend someone they have used in the past, that could be in the New England states? If I can find some decent transportation cost, I was thinking of flying to see that car, and hopefully purchase. It's somewhat of a project car, but running, so I don't want to end up spending more on airfare and transporting that I do for the car
Barcochris Jul 25th, 07, 6:36 PM 600 miles... why not just fly there and rent a truck and trailer and tow it back?

I looked into that. Well, only through u-haul, but the truck was around $650 and another $300 for the trailer, and I would imagine about $300 for fuel in that rental truck. Ideally I'd like to do that. Does anyone rent flatbeds for 1 way trips?
I only have a Ford Ranger, and according to U-haul, I can't tow this car (and the trailer dolly was $400)
FlameOut Jul 25th, 07, 7:20 PM Anyone heard of Giant Auto Transport? http://www.giantautotransport.com/
Nice website if nothing else :) They quoted me $495. About a 10 day to 2 week turn around time. Also found Flee Transportation at a quote of $375. No web site
Maybe I'll book my flight :)
grovey Jul 25th, 07, 9:53 PM if ya had a truck to tow it, get a uhaul car trailer local . around here it's about 65.00 a day. you could make the round trip within two days rental time.
onabudget Jul 25th, 07, 10:02 PM I've used DAS, Oregon to NY $725. 3 Years ago
Johnny O Jul 26th, 07, 9:07 AM Bill, where are you in Pa, and where is the car in Vt? I have a guy right nearby me who is reasonable, and I think Im sorta right in the middle. I can give you his contact info tonight, I have to get it from a friend who uses him all the time (Ebay car junkie!)
oldschl Jul 26th, 07, 8:41 PM Here is my two cents on transport: I just recently purchased a '66 Chevelle out of Lyndon, Illinois and I live in Florida. I shopped and shopped for transporters (before asking people I knew and a friend used this company). I decided I wanted an enclosed transport because of the condition of my car. Of course, that's more expensive but worth it when you see it arrive on the semi trailer vs an open transport that is subject to road hazards. Anyway, I used MinuteMan Transport (ask for George) and they gave me the best price and really fast service. I was so impressed with the driver also, he kept calling me to give me updates on where he was at and the estimated time of delivery. The company is based out of Florida and travel all over the U.S. If you happen to time it right and a truck is passing by (or close to) where your car is at...George will make you a great deal. I do not have any affiliation with this company but it was recommended to me by a friend and I'm sure glad I used them. I also wanted to let you know that the company does not ask for a deposit before pick up (stay away from companys that ask for one) and they let you pay upon delivery. A company that will ask you for money up front is likely to put you on the back burner, since they already have part of your money. Good Luck

I'm in Pittsburgh, the car is in Burlington. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to contact the seller for the past couple of days. Not sure what is up. I called and emailed. Looks like he may not want to sell after all.
Jensen Jul 27th, 07, 12:03 AM I had my car shipped from California to Utah with this service. http://www.sundayautotransport.com/ Very fast, couldn't be more pleased. :hurray:
