: First Test n Tune
Bob West Mar 7th, 04, 10:45 AM I made 8 passes today, had the carb jetted up 2 sizes in back hoping it would agree with the cool air and apparently it didnt like it as mph was down from last year(forgot the jets to jet back down),and after the track came around later in the afternoon my performance was pretty much dead on with last year. The first 5 passes were on a pretty much green track, rubber was just rolling up off the starting line, last 3 were better but still not what I'd call good.

not blistering speed but the current high 11 low 12 second 1/4 mile times that I'm used to...or would have been... except this is the 1000ft. track, you can run 1/4 mile if running street tires.

mr 4 speed Mar 8th, 04, 5:56 AM Bob,you have the ATI in there now, correct?
Bob West Mar 8th, 04, 7:40 AM Yes,the ATI and a th400 in the car now and thus far I havent picked up anything but havent lost anything either, well I say that,,,I may have picked up some consistency with the converter and strength in the transmission.
427L88 Mar 8th, 04, 7:41 AM :)Better than sex Bob! Man, you must be getting alot of a good thing then!
mr 4 speed Mar 8th, 04, 8:25 AM ..I would need to race a couple of times a week ;)
Seriously, best of luck this season Bob graemlins/thumbsup.gif
427L88 Mar 8th, 04, 9:04 AM Bob, how about something I always 'lose' when I drop the hammer, PEACE-OF-MIND that stuff won't unass ( break) on you. That's worth a bit in my book.
Bob West Mar 8th, 04, 9:10 PM Gene, I had lots of faith in that ole th350 and B&M,the one I had in my old Camaro with the 427 in it served well also. I was starting to think i was on borrowed time though after 2 years of "full time" racing. May as well upgrade for the future :D . I am curious to see what was inside that TH350 that made it last, the guy I sold it to is going to have it rebuilt by my neighbor across the street, we're going to check for kryptonite ;)
427L88 Mar 8th, 04, 9:41 PM Hear they're tuff units, especially the older ones that let you stuff 5 clutches in top gear.
Of course, the same racers also mentioned that they are a direct replacement for a Muncie.
Good luck this season Bob! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
a th350 is alot stronger than you're giving it credit for. i've never had an ounce of trouble out of a properly built th350. my last one must've made several dozen passes, some with nitrous involved, and 7 years of pretty hard street driving. as long as you have a good convertor and keep the temperature down on a th350 they will last. BTW, there was nothing wrong with the tranny still, i just cracked the case by overtightening the tranny lines graemlins/clonk.gif so i went ahead and had a spare tranny redone with a hardened sprague and input shaft with kevlar clutches.
if you come out at 4500+ with a trans brake, then yes you need to get a th400, but for footbraking a th350 is hard to break.
Bob West Mar 8th, 04, 9:53 PM Thanks Gene...what was remarkable about the th350 that came out of the car last november was the fact that it was used,I pulled the smallblock, inserted 454, then installed a BM shift kit, deep pan and external cooler and it lasted over 4 years and 2+ yrs at the track graemlins/thumbsup.gif
