Hi guys,
I'm gonna take the advise of the guru's on this board and update my cam to a newer design. Currently it has a CC280H - it runs good, I just expected a little more out of it (like everybody else). I think I may not have the compression to run it. Pistons are Speed Pro's ~9.6:1 forged. Gears I think are 3.31 or higher (cause the engine always seems to rev high) and an M20. CC recommends a XE268. I was thinking XE274. Car is driven maybe 1000 miles a year on the street w/the occasional 1/4 mile blast.
Thanks Guys

Personally I'd go with a good old CC 268HE for a good street cam or an Isky 270 Mega if you want her to talk to you and go a schosh better.... Your about 9.5 to 1 CR. is fine for both, imho!!!!
And I figure to make the 280 cam run best, you need at least 10 to 1 CR and preferably above....

I had too much compression for it but your engine would love the UD/Lunati 276/286 I bet!

Since when did words like "love" in posts like Big James turn into links and when I hit on it b/c I thought it led to his car or something went to a "Love" site!!!
AND when I tried to come back, I got kicked back to "load again"???

Well, for my 2 cents, I have a 71 396 bored .030 over w/ a crane H 272 powermax. It posts 515 intake with 272 duration and 510 exhaust with 284 duration. I run a weiand p180 with a stock qjet and 3 in. exhaust into flowmasters. I also have a m20 with a 3:31 rear and 9:5 to 1 compression with 116 open heads. It dynoed with 366 hp and 435 trq. Runs very well and faster than the stock profile. The 3:31 throws the wrench into the power formula though.

That's only b/c a Chevelle is generally several hundred pounds heavier then a First Gen. car like mine b/c I really like my 3.31's!!
Might try a shorter tire to increase the overall rearend gear thing closer to stock if you are running a taller then stock tire..

I'll play devils advocate here..
If you're driving it 1000 miles a year, and the "occasional 1/4 mile blast" why bother changing anything? You said you expected a little more out of it..what does it run in the 1/4 mile?
Have you ever tried tuning your car for best performance/ET?
Do you have an ET goal?

I just want more !!!!!
You have to understand, I got a KX500 that scares me even after 10 years. I was hoping to get that same thrill outta this car, but I'm not too impressed at this point. I figured a big block 4 spd combo would do that. Just based on what I learned here, I was thinking I was over-cammed. My so-called engine builder I think was under the assumption that these pistons were stock replacement 10.25:1's. This is why I think CC recommended the 280h to him. When I called them back and told them 9.6:1, now they recommend the XE268.
Haven't run the quarter yet but I know it can be any better that high 13's/low 14's.

Vince,
You do realize that you will start breaking parts real fast to get that, "oh my-", feel you are after out of a stick BB car, don't you??
I know I'm worried about breaking my M-20 and 12 bolt with my 496 motor..
