Long time forum reader but first time poster. If I've missed the target on any forum etiquette, please let me know:).

I'm restoring a 67 Malibu and doing an engine/trans swap. Replaced a 283/3-speed column with 350 (GM crate 350/290) and Muncie M20. I purchased some GM SB NOS motor mounts a while ago that I expected to work, however they do not (p/n 3990914). I've hit a few parts stores and haven't been able to find anything that matches up to the old ones. I'll hit the local GM dealer next. My preference is to stay NOS for these but I'm having a hard time drawing a bead on them and may need to hit a performance shop for something that works. Any advice to help find what I'm looking for? Any idea what the part number might be?

More generally, if you have any pointers on this type of conversion, I'd appreciate hearing them!

Thanks,
bp67

Welcome to Team Chevelle!!!!

Hopefully someone here can answer... if not post again in the engine forum.

bp67, I did this same conversion on my 66 Malibu. As long as someone has not slipped a set of 307 frame mounts in on your 67 Malibu, you should have no problem finding SB engine mounts that are conpatiable with your 350. Mine was a 283 factory car and I had no problems with buying a set of SB mounts from NAPA and they worked fine no problems at all, in fact I went from a 350 to a 396 and still used the SB mounts again with no problems, if you do a search in the Engine Forum there is plenty of engine/frame mount info there, hope this helps you. Again where you get into problems is trying to use 307 frame mounts, not saying that's your situation.

I am using the same GM 3990914 mounts on my 66 327. They are the
"updated" SB mounts with the safety ears like the BB have.
I switched to the BB frame mounts to use them.
You need to either change the frame brackets to the 66-67 BB
ones, or use the original SB style engine mounts without the safety ears.
Your existing SB frame brackets will also accept the aftermarket mounts
from Energy Suspension because their safety tabs are internal and do not interfere. This old post should explain and has pics of the stock brackets
and mounts.

The 307 didn't come out until 1968 and 1968 frame mounts are different so you can rule that out. You don't go into any detail on how the engine mounts do not fit; they don't bolt to the block, they don't fit all the way down on the frame mount, or they don't fit the frame mount at all.

Chevrolet had a huge recall on all 58 and later side mounts due to the driver side engine mount rubber separating and causing the engine to rise under acceleration binding the throttle linkage. Two solutions were offered, a cable restraint or replacing the rubber engine mount with a newer type with locking tabs. Chevrolet also suggested to dealers that when replacing the older type engine mount that they also replace the frame mount on 64-67 years with the equivalent big block frame mount so it'd clear the lock tabs. Could be you're trying to put the lock tab type engine mounts on original frame mounts.

Check out my http://www.freewebs.com/chevellephotos/motormounts.htm for engine mounts and frame mount differences.

Dale, as old as our cars are now any combo is possible, all I was saying is don't rule out some one along the way installing 307 frame mounts in his 67.

Jess, they'd have to be 68 or later frame mounts which would take extra special effort to install - just as any 68 or later frame mount would.
