Just got the car back...I had the interior painted satin black and now I'm second guessing that it should be gloss black. I think glossy might look better and be more durable. I'm considering repainting it. What do you guys think? thanks.

I had gloss in my other 64 elcamino I never had any problems with glare. The factory used satin though.

I never liked the flash.
To each his own.
Your car looks way cool.

I would leave the satin paint. It is factory correct and I think it looks great. Very Nice 64!

I would vote for the satin finish as well. It is also less glare bouncing up on the windshield...

Todd, I made a comment about my 65's original black interior color on your other post with your paint pictures. The lower instrument panel and door frames are 60% gloss (Dupont 88 black). The upper instrument panel (top of dash) is 0% gloss (Dupont 4428L flat black), and so is the rear window rail for the vinyl package tray. Full gloss is used on a few garnish mouldings. I got this info from Dupont's Automotive Refinish Colors for GM Corp, a paint chip booklet produced back in 1965. My booklet is original and in excellent shape, but here is a web image:

http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1965-chevrolet-pg02.jpg

That page 2 will tell you where to apply flat, semi gloss, and full gloss.

Note that satin gloss (about 30%) is not listed as an interior sheen. Odd that Corvette's has a low gloss 3% for the interior.

Having said the above, I'm no expert and I could be wrong. My knowledge comes from the booklet and my car's original paint scheme (a Fremont build). I'm now trying to duplicate that paint scheme, although my painter is a bit resistent about all the different black sheens and locations. He just sees a lot of masking.

My 64 was about the same color as your Ash Gold originally, and the tops of the doors and dash match the body. No way to tell if it was gloss or satin. At this point it's all flat. In the summer black gets HOT!. Takes a couple of miles with the window down to be able to do the "elbow hang" in my '71 Elky.

Just looked up the color from the link above, and it is "Almond Fawn Poly" It looks way more gold-ish than the chip in the image though. Interesting.
