Hi Guys,
I have a 1969 Chevelle and I'm replacing by dash bezel and want to get a new radio. I currently have a 25 year old Sparkomatic (anyone remember that brand?).

Anyway, does anyone know a make/model of radio that would fit without cutting out the knob holes and who's faceplate would fit nicely in the 69?

Thanks!!

If you can find a stock radio there is a company in Blaine Minnesota that rebuilds them. When done they look like a brand new AM radio or AM/FM radio. They update all internal electronics making the unit AM/FM/CD/MP3 high power output and all. Aprx $300 and thieves just think it is a lame stock radio, not worth stealing. Check out the link below.

Thanks Dave, sounds good, I'd have to get a stock radio though. Good Option, modern electronics and a stock look. Anything I've seen on ebay for an am/fm radio is going for at least $200. Add the rebuild and I'm at about $500.

Come on guys!! Anyone out there have an aftermarket radio that fits well?

Original parts group has one for about 200 that will bolt in . I don't know how good it is.

i bought a Usa 1 radio . It fit fine but doesn't sound that good. Looks good in the dash no cutting or drilling. It has an outlet for a power amp and a Cd player. The opening in the orginal dash is not wide enough for a cd to fit in so you will need to hook up on in the trunk or glove box.I am going to hook up a power amp and see what it sounds like then.

I don't think you need an am/fm radio. I think they convert an am radio to am/fm/etc. An am is not likely to be hacked out of your car; an am/fm is!

That's exactly what they do Malibu Jim.
I actually talked to one of their reps at a Mopar show a few weeks back. They basically take out the old electronics and install a new pc. You get AM/FM, along with 4 speaker outputs, and an input for an ipod, cd player, etc.

The system always starts up as FM. To get to AM, you do some knob flicking, or something like that. If something is plugged into the input, that is what you hear. Really cool stuff actually.

FYI, I was quoted $485cdn for the alterations. All I need now are some speakers.

I looked for such a thing about 3 months ago. Really couldn't find a damn thing. The ONE radio I did find was discontinued. I simply wanted something with a digital tuner. O'well, now I have to get all fancy to keep the stock look and still have a decent radio. Having a convertible makes it that much more difficult. Damn thieves.

Check ebay for a vintage aftermarket shaft style unit. Got a nice 80's era Grundig with a tape player, NIB, for $55, fits with no problem.

The OPGI unit is exactly the same as the Custom Autosound. I know, I made the mistake of buying one thinking it was better. It is not.

I looked a long time for a quality stereo system for my 67, finally gave up and built a killer system in the trunk and have the controls mounted inside the console. I did not want to cut up my dash to install a modern radio that screamed break in and steal me. You can`t see any of it unless the trunk is open and it uses an IPOD which i think is cool because it hold a lot of CD`s.
