: Which Spray Adhesive??
KentJ Jul 24th, 07, 4:53 PM I've recently put together my new door skins, but am having problems with the vinyl peeling away from the felt padding. I've left the panels clamped for a few days but every time, the vinyl starts to peel back. The padding adheres very well to the metal rail, but vinyl doesnt stick to that.
I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. Is there another product I should use instead?
Thanks for the help

Jr_Johnston Jul 24th, 07, 5:30 PM If you can find it 3M 8080 or 8090 are both good to use,the Super 77 is more for a temporary bond for sewing.
KentJ Jul 25th, 07, 2:40 PM Thanks. I found a place that sells it so I'll give it a try.
$23 a can though :(

That's not too bad, around here they are getting $30-35.00 a can depending what part's store you go to.
KentJ Jul 25th, 07, 5:21 PM Ouch, that's pricey. Must be good stuff then.
The guy at the store knocked 5 bucks off, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
KentJ Aug 12th, 07, 2:41 PM Just an FYI, I reglued the vinyl with the 8080 spray, and it's holding really strong.
Jr_Johnston Aug 13th, 07, 9:13 AM Glad it worked out for you.
figbash Aug 13th, 07, 9:32 AM Just go to Home Depot and get a can of solvent based contact cement. It will hold forever and only costs $5.

Musclerodz Aug 13th, 07, 10:03 AM 3M 8090 is the only way to go. Unless they have gone waaay up recently, you can get it at Home Depot or Lowe's for $15 a can.

Unless you have to replace the stuff you have used it on,I ran across this about 3 weeks ago with a headliner.I can usally pull one out without tearing it up,but not this one.Every place they used that stuff still had headliner stuck to it.

Junior, I need a small amount of adhesive to finish up my vinyl top project. I was using the 3m super trim adhesive and it really worked well. I just have to glue down the area between the rear window and the decklid. Would the solvent based contact cement be good to use for that instead of buying a new can of the 3m Super trim adhesive?

Agreed, but he was looking to glue vinyl to the padding on his door panels, not something that will ever need to be replaced. If you need to get it off, a little MEK will do the trick.

Yeah for that it would work,as that is what the factory use on that .

I most cases, no. However one of my door panels got damaged when moving a couple of months ago, so I did actually need to peel back the vinyl and reattach the metal rail to the board. Luckily it didn't wreck it, just needed to be hammered back in, and put a few rivets in for good measure. Looks fine now.
Not a common situation, and certainly not something I'd planned on re-doing, but things happen...
I picked up the 8080 spray for $18+tax (Can. dollars of course). I just hope it keeps for a while, because the small amount I used on the 2 door panels barely put a dent in the can.
