Where are you buying the 2.5 box from?

Most impressive, that is no easy job. Getting the pitman arm back on is where I had the most problems. AGR makes them as well as most of the resto places has rebuilt boxes.

Where are you buying the 2.5 box from?
From
SS396.com I have read many threads about swaps from
other vehicles, wrecked cars, etc but for a steering box for my Abody(like the Chevelle)--
I wanted a NEW one with a guarantee and no screw ups(like turn radius)
so I went with this one. Cost is about $360 including shipping from
East coast to west coast. Pete

Just a point of clarification. The 1970 Chevelle power steering gear should have a pitman shaft sweep of 87 degrees. With a fast ratio gear (12.7:1) you will have a little over 3 turns full lock to full lock.
87 x 12.7 = 1105
1105/360 = 3.07 turns full lock to full lock
It will still be plenty quick but not 2.5 turns.
Now, if the gear was manufactured (or rebuilt) with restricted pitman shaft sweep (such as 72 degrees). You will have roughly 2.5 turns full lock to full lock. But your Chevelle's turning circle will be larger.
72 x 12.7 = 914
914/360 = 2.5
Lastly, the nut that attaches the power steering high pressure hose to the gear has a 11/16 hex not 9/16. The pressure hose nut at the pump and the low pressure return line nut at the gear have a 5/8 hex.

Thanks for the clarification Jim,I don't know what the actual turns will be--
just going by THEIR advertisement.I could lose a little turn radius if it comes
out that way--what I am looking for is some ROAD FEEL--4 turns lock to lock
and one finger PS feel like I'm steering a BATHTUB on a CLOUD!! I was hoping
someone on here had the same box but no one has chimed in. As far as the
hose fittings:o--I knew the one nearest the engine was 1/16" bigger than the
other, just had my dimensions wrong. Also 4 1/2 turns lock to lock with a 4spd makes for a lot of arm turning
when making a right/left turn from a stop sign:sad: and shifting gears.Pete

Did you have any problems fitting the pitman arm puller on? Maybe it's just the specific one I got from Autozone, but it would fit enough around my pitman arm to pull it off.
