I am looking for some information/advice on a solid axle swap for a 63-82 vette. I know that this is a Chevelle site; but it seems that there are a lot of Vette owners here to that can appreciate this type of swap not to mention my crazy idea listed at the end of this post. What I am looking for is the type of swap that the IHRA cars run in Top-Stock. Monty Bogan Jr.’s car that was banned from the class is exactly what I am thinking about here.
Now for the crazy part......I have thought about building a system similar to that of a Chevelle if the above idea is nixed.
Traction, cost, and safety are my reasons for considering a solid axle.
I have buddies with 4-5 grand in an IRS rear that uses Kenworth size u-joints, half shafts, etc. and still has broken parts with his BBC 4-Speed combo. I am not that die hard to keep the IRS.
Thank you for your help
